Well done to you for not reacting and giving her any ammunition at all. I thought my Mum could be slightly harsh but NIM Mum blows her out of the water! I don't think she's insecure, but instead very spoiled. To think that she can treat people like that - she must have had many years of people not standing up to her properly. How sad to end up such a bully.
I think you are so right to put on a united front. Although it is probably disappointing for NIM not to be able to take a stronger line, it's a harsh situation for him. Staying together and showing everyone your love is all the antidote that you'll need in the long term. I hope she'll fall into line as the relationship matures and she learns the meaning of the word boundaries! How did she raise such a lovely man if she is so hostile?
Dinah, I'm speechless at NIM's mum! But I think Lara sums it up pretty well. Big well done on keeping your cool - you must have nearly bitten your tongue off! I really hope it gets better over time, when she realises that NIM's happy and you aren't going anywhere!
It's nearly Friday! Surely this week should be going quicker as it's only a 4-dayer! Doesn't seem that way, but it's not too early to start making weekend plans
I'm going to take a leaf out of Lara's book and do a big spring clean while OH is in Milan this weekend. As long as he notices, otherwise they'll be big trouble!
Sorry about the overtime Cinny, but it will be good for Disneyland! And let us know what's happening with the house-building idea. Sounds ideal!LBM Sep 2008 debt: £27,927.04start weight: 140.2, week 2: 1380 -

Pfft, I'd like to say that's her problem, but unfortunately it's not as easy as that, is it? But it sounds like she's already written NIM off a bit, by not buying him a car/building him a house whether he would accept it or not. How does he feel about it? It must be pretty tough on him too.LBM Sep 2008 debt: £27,927.04start weight: 140.2, week 2: 1380 -
At least she can't say you're a gold-digger though Dinah what with him not earning a mil a month at the moment  And further to what Poddle says, it does sound like she's trying to manipulate NIM into coming home by spoiling his brother.
I enjoyed DMTH Cinny but won't say much because I'm not very good for not spoiling films for other people. I know, I was in Rome last year and there were squillions of them, they all had dents in though!
Never too early for weekend plans Poddle, I make mine on the previous Sunday night. Supposed to be lovely again this weekend, I think we're going suitcase shopping for OH
 At the thought of a naked Lance Armstrong on a bike!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
My services also cost me less than those mentioned too as I don't go to the alfa garage but my own mechanic who does it for £55. To keep up the warranty you have to go to the branded garage which obviously costs a lot more than the garage where you might usually take it.
You don't have to use the official garages as long as the garage you do use are using official parts and not alternatives then the warranty is technically not void. I think Martin has an article about this0 -
And also... who earns a million a year?! I've never met anyone who does! Perhaps I too am moving in the wrong circles... *sigh*LBM Sep 2008 debt: £27,927.04start weight: 140.2, week 2: 1380

My OHs sister once announced that their mum doesn't like any of their boyfriends or girlfriends. Lets hope OH's mum was a in a bad mood when she said that! At least I am not alone haha, does make me a bit paranoid but at least she is nice to my face!
Drove my sister to Bedford last night to pick a knitting machine up that she bought on ebay. Only cost about a tenner petrol but she gave me 25 plus bought me a chinese so all good.
Payday today yay, going to start working out how much money I have in a bit0 -
Payday tomorrow for me - Can't wait! Petrol is costing us sooooo much. £95 this month alone!
Lets not mention OT. Bad word with me. Basically our contracts were stitched up a bit. We don't get holidays to use like everybody else but get 9 days off every 5 weeks along with other days during the other 4 weeks. We are allowed to bank hours for flexi by working extra shifts if you want too or covering people who have taken Flexi so bit of swings and roundabouts.
Plus don't get OT for public holiday as shift allowance is meant to cover that but there other people I work with who get OT for public holidays and get the same shift allowance so trying to sort it out.
At the moment, if we do get it, I am due Good Friday, Easter Monday, May day and the spring bank holiday. Think I will need to put them through seperately to save the tax man hurting me even more. Nasty Tax Man!0 -
Crikey to the nekkid Lance Armstrong!
I'm grateful for the overtime, it's few and far between here! It's just she's been taking a lot of time off recently, and this just seems like another excuse. Good news about the overtime on Sunday though Birdie!
Sounds like a bit of a do with the OT and Holidays Poolie, I would not be able to get my head about that!
Wendz - That was nice of your sister! Double nice for the chinese.
Payday for OH tomorrow too, all the budgets are coming out! He's excited now he's fully paid off his CC he'll have an extra £100 this month. We're going to try and be as frugal as we can this month though, be fishing out the NT passes for Sunday.0 -
Wow Dinah, I think everyone agrees with ya about the MIL! And I've seen the pics of the meet and Egypt, and your teeth look fine, you're really pretty. I had a brace on my lower teeth for about 3 years (including retainers) and they kept lying to me about how long I would have to wear it and everything, and in the end I gave up with the retainers and now my 1 wonky (twisted) tooth, has just twisted back. I think what I'm trying to say is don't let her get you down and I see no reason for orthotics!!
Anywhoos - about the dress making course, how did you find it? I am currently waiting to sign up for one where I am, and its nearly £500!! Excluding materials!!! Which is putting me off really. Its a 1 year (sept - July) course for 3 hours a week but it seems excessive!! I would like to see if there are more in the area but I can't! so any tips would be great!
Also Wendz what was the knitting machine your sister bought? I only ask all this cos Im doing textiles at uni and very into all my sewing etc!!0
