    Uhoh, new 5% regular saver with Lloyds TSB. We're going to max out both cash ISAs this year, I'm wondering whether it is worth filling those more slowly and taking on the new regular saver now, or just continuing to plow away at the ISAs first even though its a slightly worse rate and hope there is a better rate basic savings account (rate usually are better on reg savers) when we've finished with the ISAs... hmm.

    My teeth are a big bug bear of mine as they're a bit too far forward, but I made the decision to accept myself as I am, NIM loves me that way, and so it's all good. However now I can't stop thinking about it and am seriously considering going to the orthadontist if its that noticable. QUOTE]

    Ahem...now that would be playing right into her hands, don't you dare! Anyway it costs about £2,000 plus per jaw i.e. upper and lower each! So would that money not be best spent on your house?

    God that woman...sorry NIM

    You should! If you don't like it, it'll grow back. Plus you always feel great after having a complete hair re-vamp!

    Thanks for the heads up Dinah, I'll go have a gander in a second.

    Does the high interest saver have a minimum amount to put in each month? Or a limited time that the interest is 5%? If not, you could open it now, put a small amount in a month, then when the ISAs are maxed start putting what would be your ISA money into there instead? But then you never know what the interest rates will be like when your ISAs are maxed, but you'd have the 5% one as a kind of back up.

    Okay, serious question now. Chances of me getting a 950k mortgage?

    I have no idea what's going on with the bank accounts Dinah so I'll sidestep that! I love the comment about men being simple and needing encouragement... so true! Although my OH is odd sometimes. When I got home last night I noted that nothing had been done housework-wise, he'd even left a wet towel on the unmade bed and OH proudly announced that he'd done no housework and expected me to be happy?! I think he guessed that I wasn't...

    Don't forget items like cam belts are entirely dependant upon milage as well as what level the particular garage sets it at. I'm a very high milage user, and mine needed doing when the car was only 2 1/2 years old, however it cost me £82 (think £250 garage is having a laugh, mine was a genuine alfa part!) plus £20 labour and the next one will cost me less as I will get a patent part. My services also cost me less than those mentioned too as I don't go to the alfa garage but my own mechanic who does it for £55. To keep up the warranty you have to go to the branded garage which obviously costs a lot more than the garage where you might usually take it. I've had a new car before, and I wouldn't do it again lightly as I found it an appaulingly expensive experience (plus the car had to go back to the garage 14 times in 11 months - joy of joys!). I think unless your MOT is coming back with some major issues (my dads came back today with £900 of issues!) and you're saving for a house you're better waiting until you have your bricks and mortar before getting a shiny new car. Ofc if it turns out your car is on its last legs, that'd change the situation a fair bit!

    You can take new cars to any VAT regisitered garage for repairs servicing etc now and still keep the warrenty valid, the only criteria is they must use genuine parts e.g. Ford for a focus, BMW for a mini etc...
    Hope this helps

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: bless.

    OH always leaves wet towels on the bed, drives me mad. Yesterday i just moved it onto his side of the bed instead of hanging it up, last night when he got into bed he complained it was wet - that'll teach him :D

    Since i finished uni - 3 days ago? - he has started calling me his housewife, we'll see what happens if he keeps calling me that!!
