I was told to wear the tray with the bleeching gel for 1.5 - 2 hours a day. If I leave it in for longer am likely to see the results any quicker?

Hi, I've had the bleaching kit from my dentist and have been using it for 1.5 - 2 hours every evening as I was instructed to do. I've been doing it for a week and as yet there is no noticeable change. If I leave it on for longer than the 2 hours will I get quicker results? Also, can anyone give me any tips on how to be more 'thrifty' on using the bleaching gel. Thank you.

You need to keep the gel in the fridge. ;)

I'm no expert (waits for Toothsmith or Teerah to read this thread;)) but if you have been instructed to use the bleaching kit for 1.5 - 2 hours.....................and you decide to leave it on for longer, I think you are risking damage to your teeth, gums and dental health.:eek::eek:

I wouldn't risk it, if it were me.

Hi, the dentist said 1.5 - 2 hours but on the instructions that came with the bleaching kit it says "tray can be worn overnight, or for a few hours during the day". Also, can anyone tell me the best way to clean the tray?

I think you need to ring upyour dentist and ask him/her.

It's quite possible the material COULD be used for longer - but there may be some reason your dentist doesn't want YOU to use it for longer.

No-one on this site could possibly know this, so any advice here could be bad for you.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Thank you. I shall contact the surgery this week to check if it's ok to leave on for longer. I suppose I can also ask how soon I should be seeing any noticeable change in the colour as up to now there is none!
  • Hi,

I bought the teeth bleach and had the trays made at my dentist, it was £200 then I whitened my teeth at home by wearing the bleach for 30 minutes a day. My teeth did go nice and white, lots of people noticed. Its now a year down the line and as I have been on the red wine and tea again I need a little top up! I was going to buy the bleach again from the dentist but have looked up the make of the bleach and realised they sell it much cheaper if you buy it direct - they also sell the mouth trays too - result.
here you go, good luck happysmile.co.uk
I have just ordered the poladay mixer kit
  • I got my teeth whitened at the dentist and would never try and do it myself or go to a beauty salon. That was about 3-4 years ago and my teeth are still reasonably white - might go for a top up soon though - it cost about £300.

why not match your Mum's contribution with the money you're saving fro mstopping smoking?

that way you'll have an added incentive - and giong to the dentist is the way to go, I'd not touch anything else with a bargepole, never mind try to bleach my teeth with it.

On the up side, you might find your teeth go back to a whiter shade once you've been stopped smoking for a few months.

Get in to see the dentist for a full picture of what it takes to make your mouth a nicer place 9though 48 hrs in it will already be smelling better - trust me, I stopped smoking 10 years ago, not easy, but so worth it!)

Good Luck staying a non smoker.:D
