Thanks for that. The video is really useful.

Now have another question (sorry!) - my two front teeth are caps.... Does that make any difference i.e. will they be affected (adversely)?

That's the problem of not being assessed properly, and using OTC stuff.

Crowns will not be affected at all by the whitening, so you could end up with your own teeth being one colour and the crowns/white fillings that used to match being another colour.

Get it done by someone who knows what to look out for, and what they're doing.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • Thanks, Toothsmith. Actually my crowns don't match at the mo anyway (they did recommend at the time that I have the porcelain ones but I couldn't justify the cost at the time - see where they're coming from now though!)

Deffo the dentist route for me then and will go the home kit route - off to tell my OH what I want for Crimble!!

If you've been smoking for any length of time, there may well be a few other dental issues that will need to be addressed.

Get to a dentist and discuss it all with him/her.

Don't go to a beauty salon -It's illegal, and having them whitened there could easily do more harm than good.

Hi, I had the bleeching kit from my dentist and have been using it for a week but as yet no noticeable result! How soon have people noticed any lightening?
  • Crest Whitestrips are not the full length of the smile, (they only cover about eight teeth) so only really whiten the front teeth...which in turn makes the pre molars and molars look dull.

I had a tray made at my dentist for my lower teeth, (my upper teeth are porcelain so no point) and wore it for two hours a day every day for three weeks. It made a HUGE difference, but I only really noticed it at the end of the treatment. It seemed to just suddenly happen. I used Optident 6% Hydrogen Peroxide gel, which came in little plastic vials, and had to be kept in the fridge. You are only supposed to put a tiny 'dot' of the gel into each tooth space, so each vial lasted me two days. The cost was £199 for fourteen vials, but I made it last longer :)

I would go with dental home kit all the time. If you want a professional and long lasting result.
