I'm currently using Crest Whitestrips & I've used them before. Brings back a lovely colour & not at all too white. Have a look on Ebay cos that's where I get mine for about £20.

here's where i'm confused some dentists in our area offer "home kits" only which is a bit cheaper but not sure which to choose for the best.

I'd go for the home kit from the dentist. If you have the laser treatment as a 'one off' you will eventually need to top up to maintain optimal whiteness, and with the home treatment you will have your bleaching trays to use at home when necessary.

My experience: I initially went for the 'in surgery' whitening, but the result was disappointing. My dentist said he would either do it again free of charge, or make up the bleaching trays and give me an 'at home' kit, also free of charge. I went for the 'at home', and spent the next 2 weeks bleaching with brilliant results.

That was about 3 years ago now, and my teeth are still lovely and white. I use the bleaching trays at home for about 3 consecutive days every 6 months or so. Still under my dentist's supervision.

    Works for me:beer:

I use Crest Whitestrips too. I really like them, you can see the difference the minute you take them off. You use them twice a day for 30mins each time. $40 to buy however theres usually a money off coupon in the box, I have one for $6 off my next box so be stocking up in the states in a few weeks.
Also my mum used to be a dental nurse and checked them for me an the ingredients look to be fine and are not abrasive so wont damage enamel too.

If sombody paid for me to have my teeth laser whitened, i would never speak to them again.

I thought it would be a good idea while in Thailand to get my teeth whitened, 2 options, the home kit for 16 days or so, sleeping with a mouth piece in, or only one single hour in the chair, sounds easy, i will go for that. I have not felt such pain in a long long time(if ever), i really wondered why i had paid money for someone to torture me, i was so thankful when it was over, BUT NO, they say my teeth may be sensitive for a while, well after about 36 hours i was still in pain, it was like every single tooth was sensitive and i was chewing on foil paper.

Please do not subject someone you claim to love to this torture.
  • I wondered how 'bad' the teeth were of people who had whitening treatments??

My OH would like his teeth whitened as 20 years of smoking haven't done him any favours plus he was dentist shy for many years. I hasten to add he hasn't smoked for 2 years and I have got him to the dentist so all is ok there.

He is rather discoloured and I know it would really help his self confidence to have whiter teeth.

If you're properly assessed by someone who knows what they're doing (a dentist!) this really shouldn't happen - or at least only be minimal. OR they should be able to warn you that it's a likely outcome if you really do want to go ahead anyway.

I really don't like the idea of being ABLE to buy a gift voucher for this either. How does the person selling the voucher know the person receiving it is suitable for the treatment? What would be the arrangements if they weren't suitable for it? Money back? Or give it to someone else?
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Speak to the dentist about it. I'm sure the dentist would be happy to do it if he's suitable.

  • Been thinking about this for a while but not yet taken the plunge. After reading this thread am just about 'decided' (almost) to go for the home kit from my dentist but it's the first I've heard of Crest whitestrips..... Have found their website http://crestwhitestrips.co.uk/ but the choice is boggling!!!

Am now back to square one - how do you choose???
