Although I realize that I should have gone with the gut feeling and walked away despite my arrangement with another person, Toothsmith and other people who posted here before, your advice, as to where I could report this would be much appreciated.
With them issuing no receipts, then it may not be a bad idea to report this to your local tax office.
In many countries, including ours, the most stringent regulations and enforcement protocols are wielded by the national tax offices!!
Remeber it was 'tax evasion' that finally got Al Capone banged up!!How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Hi my sister has used the crest strips before but not sure what she thought of them. On ebay there are loads off diff ones..how do you know which to get? also is it better to buy off ebay.com?
Thanks0 -
Would be worth getting a gumshield or mouth guard of some kind to use with it as it holds the strips in place easier. Otherwise you have to try and not move your mouth at all.
Whitestrips aren't licensed in this country.
The strength of agent in them is higher than allowed in Europe for an over-the-counter product.
The reason there are regulations like that in this country is because the general public are pretty stupid, and the E.U. tries to protect the majority from the stupid minority.
There will always be one person who thinks it's a good idea to try 'modifying' things! Whitestrips have that level of agent in them because they're DESIGNED not to stay in place for too long, and for the saliva to wash away excess agent.
If you put them in a mouthguard, you'll be getting way too much concentrated peroxide against your gums for way too long. This will cause a serious chemical burn (if you're lucky) and tooth threatening complications if you're not.

Hi, I wondered if I could tag onto this thread?
How much do dentists generally charge for teeth whitening? How long does it last and is it much more effective than home kits please?0 -

It can vary quite a bit depending on dentist/area/method used/ and whether that dentist happens to be doing a promotion on it at that time.
Between £100 and £500+. I charge £400. I never do 'specials' on it.
The thing with getting it done by a dentist is that he/she will ONLY do it if there is a very good chance of it being successful. Not everybody is suitable for whitening.
So, if it's done by a dentist, to start with, you will know you are suitable for it. The products will be sourced from reliable genuine stock and all precautions will be taken properly.
How well it does and how long it lasts is also an individual thing, but again the dentist should give you an indication of this, so that you can decide if you feel it's worth it or if you don't want to bother. Usually, with dental supplied kits, it should last a good long time.
Over the counter kits in this country are generally pretty useless, as there is hardly any active agent in them. Some kits that can be sourced via the internet have more active ingredients in them, but can easily be dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands (e.g. the person who puts Crest whitestrips into some sort of gumshield) or if they're used on the wrong mouth.
It all really depends on how much keeping your teeth healthy is worth to you.
No-one NEEDS whiter teeth, and if you can't afford to have teeth whitened properly, then it's best not to have it done. It could well cost you a lot more in the long term. How to find a dentist.

Thank you for your detailed reply Toothsmith. I'm seeing my dentist on Friday and just wanted to be armed with a bit of info before I ask him. My teeth, I'm afraid, are quite yellow from years of red wine and tea but I'm sure no-one but me notices.0

It really would be best to let your dentist do it.
We can get a bit sniffy if a patient goes to different places to get different things done.
Not all dentists 'do' whitening. If yours doesn't, then ask for his recommendation as to where to go.How to find a dentist.

Thanks Toothsmith. My (regrettably) ex husband of 20 years was a dentist so I know how sniffy you can get!0

Thanks for the advice.... I guess.
I'm not stupid, I have got professional advice before using the product so I resent that you call me stupid.
I have never had a problem with using the Whitestrips in this way and my dentist has never advised me against it. (I have told him that I use them and that I use them with a mouth guard.)
I appreciate your concern and thanks for giving another side to using this product for other readers to consider, and I will take on board what you have said but it isn't going to stop me using a product that works for me and using it HOW it works for me.:starmod: :starmod: :starmod: "Live like you mean it, Love 'til you feel it" :starmod: :starmod: :starmod:- The Goo Goo Dolls0
