Capital One Ripping me off!!

  • in a nutshell, my pay day is first of the month, my direct debits are set up for 2nd of the month, they attempted to get the direct debit on 30th.

my point was that they attempted to take funds early, then charge me £32, not advise me my payment bounced, then completely refuse any negotiation even tho its my first error.

So basically it was 'on or around' as agreed then?

I thought that the DD date was a "no earlier than" date? I get paid on the 20th of the month or earlier if the 20th is on a Sat/Sun. All my DDs are set up to come out on the 21st, they never come out before that date.

    Yes, unexpected things do arise.

    But £9?

    Do me a favour.
  • I have an arranged overdraft.
I did not actually apply for it.
    I was offered it.
    I accepted it.
The reason I accepted it was so that if I unintentionally go overdrawn then the overdraft will kick in and I will not have any penalty to pay.
Perhaps you could have an arranged overdraft of £100.

That would take some responsibility in regards to finances...quite clearly not possible. Blaming the card company is far easier.

But is your account completely empty before you get paid? Personally i think it is sailing a bit close to the wind to have DD's set up to be taken only 1 day after you get paid because it doesn't account for bank holidays, wages going in late etc & is asking for trouble.

My DD's are set up for certain dates but i make sure well in advance that the funds are already there just in case. I do understand the OP's frustration but when you manage your finances so tightly to the line then you have to be pretty on the ball.

Even if i did have DD's set up for one day after being paid i wouldn't take every last penny out before i get paid again.

Maybe the op had the money in a savings account, and would have moved it over if he had been informed the DD would be taken early? I don't have any financial difficulties at present (touch wood) and I don't normally have more than £1 in my current account - if I need cash I transfer the savings over and then take it out, same for bills.

If Capital One did indeed take the payment early, then they should refund all charges.

Why are you having a go at this poster and what gives you the right. In the real world there are loads of people who haven't got £9 before payday. I thought these forums were a place for friendly advice. It's people like you that put people off coming here and posting. Go away and get a life.:mad::mad:
