Actually I've got the argument that's going to end this thread (or at least the stupid argument). Time to get the dictionary out as some people seem to be confused on the meaning of the word date (the direct debit guarantee of course states that if the payment date changes they must notify you in advance). It's a tricky little word in the language we call English I know
From dictionary.com
Date is a noun meaning one of which is
a particular month, day, and year at which some event happened or will happen: July 4, 1776 was the date of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Now a range of days like people are claiming direct debits can be took over are hardly a "particular month day and year" are they. In case that isn't clear to anyone we might as well look up the meaning of particular incase some people can't get their head round it
"of or pertaining to a single or specific person, thing, group, class, occasion, etc., rather than to others or all; special rather than general: one's particular interests in books."
Keyword single! Which we will also look up
"only one in number; one only; unique; sole: a single example."
We could look up the meaning of one but I think everyone knows that0 -

Well you're probably right though they do seem to have shut up since I got the dictionary out! Probably just working out how best to argue with the English language:D

No such term exists within any Barclaycard agreement so they cannot do it.
Barclays, (and other finance/loan companies) however do charge a fee of £25 for changing the payment date after 1 change has already been made. This applies to loans and finance only.
I never said it was Barclaycard, I said it was Barclays and it doesn't state anything about doing it after 1 change, just that they would charge it...The point I was trying to make is that you can be charged for a DD date to be changed.Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10
Aim for 2011 - pay off car loan £260.00 saved

agreed, yes you can (generally with finance though, not so much credit cards tbh - but some do it, for instance Monument!)2010 - year of the troll

I can't believe this thread is still going! Just made me go look up a statement out of interest to see the wording. This is from a MBNA statement:
"your minimum payment of £10.00 will be collected from your nominated bank by direct debit on or after 21/11/2008"
So that explains why I've never had a problem. I might have missed this in the many posts but have you checked the wording on your statement?0 -

Neither can I.
What's in the OP's wallet? Well, bank account really....
Obviously not £9.
I go against the grain here, but I see these charges for late payment, going over credit limit etc as taxes on stupidity.
I'm not perfect by any means, but I've never been charged by a credit card company in this manner.
With regard to direct debit...I have noticed that if a due date falls on a weekend, it will affect the available balance of my bank account and appear on my statement, but the money will not actually totally leave my account until the Monday.
As has been said, for such a paltry amount a small overdraft would have solved this. I got my Mrs to have one, as when I met her she didn't. You may get charged a small amount in interest but it would sure be better than being clobbered like Mr No Nine Pounds has.0
