Ok fair enough thats assuming i go for the 150 1.9cdti though what about the 120 ? or even lower the 100 8v the goverment work on CO2 thats thier golden target they dont care about bhp / torque my argument is still the same in the goverments eyes my car is a dirty old shed they would have me believe its a play on insecurities I dont care if the neghbours think i have a earth killing old car at the end of the day it is service able for its purpose and stil as green if not greener than me getting a new car and more cost effective for me to keep it as it stands.
I'm just pointing out that you said in your original post that your car had better emissions than a newer car, which clearly it does not if correct comparisons are made.
There's nothing wrong with owning a older car, I own one myself, infact it falls into this scheme and I won't be getting a new one.
Green credentials can be argued over the actual CO2 emissions produced on building a new car, over running a already built older car, but that's a whole other debate.
You are correct, its just to kick start the manufacturers.0 -
How will all this effect prices of used cars now but also in future.
If loads people went out and bought new cars now then in long term we may see used prices falling?
Im more interested in used prices. I have a Y reg Accord thats costing a bomb in tax, petrol, etc so wanted to get some thing some what cheaper running cost.
well making the assumption that every car 10+ at this moment is now worth £2000 sell it for a bargain £2500 on ebay :-)If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

Will be interesting to see what exactly is meant by 'new'. Don't you save at least £2k over a brand new car by say, buying a 6 month old car?0

Its not about being green however as discussed on another thread there are conflicting facts about wether it is or not.
I haven't seen any specific details i beleive Mr Mandelson is going to announce them tomo. But reports yesterday indicated there where not going to be any restrictions on the type of new car purchased as some of the cars that we do produce are the biggest gusslers. So it would be stupid to keep those out of the loop. Whilst i agree most ppl who can afford to buy a new Jag's LR and Bentleys might not have a suitable car to px it is conceivable.0 -

No. I've never considered buying a 6month old car as i have always been able to source the same car brand new cheaper. This applies to most of the mainstream MFRs.0 -
damm i just bought a £500 banger to get me around in and i could do with buying a new car NOT
Please remember that you will lose that £2k as soon as you drive it out of the showroom so i will stick with me banger if it lasts me a year all well and good0 -

Go on then, find me a Zafira, preferably diesel, for under ten grand. I've seen a couple of late 08's for that.0 -

Broadspeed will sell you a new 09 pre-reg one for £10011
Must be worth an extra £12 for a brand new 09 car than used 08 one?

Just checked the Ts & Cs and yes I can replace my large old un-environmental banger with a brand new large banger. This will do no good at all for UK's balance of payments when all that fuel gets imported to power it! Now, do Hummers weigh under 3500 KG?0
