why does it say in his post to PM (which I can't do for some reason ) him to sign up?
I'm guessing he was replying to someone who'd had a problem signing up. Phone BT to place the order, trust me it'll be a lot quicker than trying to deal with one rep who only frequents here occasionally and has far more on his plate than dealing with simple phoneline orders when there's a whole call centre set up for that exact purpose.

Do be prepared to stand your ground that the offer IS available (and if they deny it try phoning again so you get someone else) and know exactly what price plan you want so they don't try to sneak you onto a more expensive one (they will tell you, after you've given all your details, the price you will be paying so just listen out for that and make sure it's the same price you were expecting)
  • After 3 calls at various times finally got this deal today - through BT's live chat
person. The call centre guys tried to flog me Bt broadband & Bt vision and was about to leave for virgin.

Thanks to the excellent advice in this thread I have an engineer coming to install a line on Friday. Although my flat has never previously had a BT line activated, there is a BT socket. Will I have to use this or can I have a new socket in a more convenient place?
  • I called at 9am this morning and spoke to a fantastic lady who took me through the free offer in 20 minutes.

You'll probably be able to have it in a new position, you'll need to ask the engineer when he comes to install it (don't understand how there is a BT socket if the house has never had BT though???)

    Hi JD Power,

Utilitybroker is right BT sometimes allows a builder to pre-wire sockets & wiring during the actual build/renovation. This ensures the wiring is nicely ducted (hidden) in walls but BT would still need to connect a pre-wired home to the local exchange.

    Regards,
    Jon.
