i posted this in the other thread re BT connection charges, although in seconds thoughts this might be the better thread!!

i have tried to call up BT to install a line at the new house im moving into, its about a year and a hald old, but not been lived in before (still rented, but the previosu tenants house sale fell through or something) It is a new build, and has BT points in every room of the house. I have called up a couple of times trying to arrang installation, first to be told the order was placed, then when i call to check on progress, it had been cancelled , then i was told that my address was invalid and i had to speak to a speicific team as the address could not be found on the database. So i called up this morning to do this, they said i did not need to speak to a specific team, the line had been tested previously and I needed to pay the £122 connection fee. In no way can i afford this, and also aware that there was a free connection offer floating around, i look, and saw that the offer had been extended on MSE, So i called up again qouting the offer, gave all my details, was told it would be 18months contract etc etc, was told they were running a credit check on me, and then i was cut off.

What do I do? call back and complain that I was cut off. Nothing would have come up on the credit check, other than I was a previous BT customer, and I cancelled my service due to poor customer relations and problems with the boadband (I.e. it stopped connecting out of the blue and they refused to believe me).

I need a phone line, but cannot afford the one off £122, even if they spread it over direct debit. Nor am i in an area where I have other options such as virgin.

    any advise?

If you were unable to complete the order, call back and place the order again if you want service.

thanks for makign me persist with this!
  • hi can anyone advise me?
I've recently taken out bt's free connection charge offer and need to make 10 chargeable or inclusive calls a month through bt in order to avoid a penalty.
However, orange is my internet and call provider.
Does anyone have any suggestions about how to get around this and still route calls through bt?
I believe 1280 will not work through Orange all though i'm not sure.
Also, could i use a bt chargecard? Some say yes although i was told by a bt representatve that you couldn't as the calls from a chargecard start with an 0800 access number and these don't show up on your bill as either chargeable or inclusive calls.
Please help me as people who work for both bt and orange appear to be completely unaware of anything of any use!!

    Hi jokerdeejay!

I have read your post and can confirm that calls made via a BT Chargecard do qualify as 'chargeable'.

Youve got to laugh 3 - following on from post #261

Today, I have been told exactly the opposite to what I was told in post #261 but the same as in post #250 (are you lost yet, because I am getting slightly disorientated now myself)

In post #250 I quoted a BT rep stating that part of my £500.00 quote for line installation was for the survey by openreach. In post #261 I quoted a BT rep stating that there was NO charge for the openreach survey and the quote was simply for all of the work involved, today in THIS post, I will quote what I have been told, once again today!
"The charge is £350 exc VAT for the survey, and £70 exc VAT for the 2 metre of duct."

So, there is a charge, there isnt a charge and now there is a charge for the survey again, £350.00 + vat.

A survey that BT insisted I had, a survey that BT set in motion, a survey that at no point was I told or was it even intimated at that it was going to cost £350.00 for the pleasure of.

Do you think if I give them a long enough roap??
