Hi, I already have a telephone line that is now with sky, it used to be with bt, but I want a 2nd phoneline, can BT do this for me under the free instal offer? and can I still keep my 1st phoneline with sky?
thanks for your help.0 -
Another possible alternative, for people who are reading this thread because they are interested in getting a new landline, but do not necessarily want to sign up for the 18 month commitment entailed by this offer by BT, is to consider O2's Favourite Place PAYG deal with a mobile instead.
Under this deal, you only need to top up by £10 per month in order to get 500 minutes of free calls to UK landlines when you are calling from a single postcode which you nominate. You could therefore nominate the postcode where you live and therefore get 500 minutes of free calls per month, which I think would be sufficient for most people to replace the outgoing calls that they would have made on a landline.
Therefore, instead of paying £11.25 to BT for line rental, plus extra for the calls you make, you instead pay £10 to O2 and get 500 minutes of free calls from your home, plus you have the £10 credit to pay for other mobile calls when you are away from home.
This will not suit some people. For instance, the rates for calls to 0845 and 0870 a lot higher than BT, and if people have to phone your mobile this could cost them more than if they were phoning a landline. And obviously it would not be suitable if you have poor mobile reception at your home. But for some people, this might be a much better solution than a new BT landline, for instance for people who have to move regularly.koru0 -
Still waiting for my OH to deal with this, want a second line installed, preferably for free, but he's never home from work in time to spend the requisite hour trying to get through to a human being! It's like trying to get hold of God or the DVLA.
BT won't talk to anyone other than the account holder so, being only the spouse of the account holder, I am an Unperson in their eyes.
He did manage to get through once, on his day off, asked for a new line to be installed on the free connection deal, and was promptly fobbed off with Call Sign, for which he had to bump up the package from free weekend calls only, ended up with free anytime calls at a cost of £17.20 a month plus the Call Sign fee of £2.50. It then took nearly a week to show up on the online account (not 24 hours), during which time I couldn't do anything about cancelling it because "there is an order in progress". Have now managed to put it all back how it was online, so at least we're back to square one.
Don't know if anyone's posted the link to the notes lately, but here it is:

It now does say it's been extended to 30th September, so I guess you can ignore the bit on the Top Deals page where Martin says it's expired - apparently it hasn't!0 -

I didn't know he could do that
Such a beautifully simple solution ... not that it would have made any difference this evening!
Update ... Sat him down with a cup of tea and written instructions, started ploughing through the interminable menus and sub-menus, going round and round in circles, wondering where the magical kingdom of the Customer Options Team could be found ... finally got to speak to a human being called Pete, was then put on hold and cut off five minutes later at 8.02 p.m.
Redialled ... again ... wading through the menus ... again ... finally found another human being, OH explained what we wanted, using the "new line free connection offer" key phrase, she told us we needed the Home Movers team but she couldn't put us through because the whole system was down
I did wonder earlier, as every attempt to look at anything on their website ended up at that maddening "Internet Explorer cannot open the webpage" screen.
I give up. I don't think the Customer Options team exists. They're not mentioned on any of the menus through either the 0800 100 444 or 0800 800 880 numbers.
If anyone knows different, I'd be delighted to hear from you. I've ploughed through all 14 pages of this thread three times looking for clues, and now I'm going round the bend.
Happy Friday everyone :beer:0 -
Amazingly, it's done.
Tried again at 8.55, got through to Home Movers, OH was only on the phone for about seven minutes, we've got a new number already and the new line will be connected next Friday, for free. I take it all back!
Thanks to everyone for the info on this thread

A friend of mine has built a new property that required a 3/4 mile cable to his new property, guess what £129.00. My quote for digging a small shallow 4ft trench and 4 feet of ducting? £500.00......and still BT and openreach are agruing that my quoted charge is correct.0

Hi Kate and Stephanie from BT (#166 and #169)
I was wondering whether you'd mind sharing the outcome of your enquiry? Did u manage to transfer your remaining contract from the old property and sign up for 18 months contract with free line installation in the end? And any ideas what does "7. Customers who are still in term with some other residential offers are excluded from this Special Offer" actually mean?
Thanks for your help

Dear All, I now have a BT line installed under the free connection offer. I am slightly concerned that I wont always make the required number of calls [10 per month/30 per quarter] however – is there any way of checking this online – an up to date billing system etc?
Alternatively, I am thinking of just making say, 10 short calls in one weekend to make sure I hit the criteria – is there a time limit or can I just ensure it connects [to an answer phone say] for a few seconds then hang up?
I realise this sounds a bit sneaky – I’m just trying to ensure that for the months I don’t make many calls, I can not get stung!
Thanks for any advice.0 -
