Its a normal geographical number so it would either be included in any inclusive 01/02/03 landline minutes that you might have,or would be charged at the appropriate geographical rate by your supplier, plus a connection charge for chargeable calls.

Possibly you do not really need a phone if you will be struggling to make 10 bona fidi calls a month
Ah well, I will struggle on with my quest to get a phone line at a reasonable rate well under the £500.00 I have been quoted.

Dear All, I now have a BT line installed under the free connection offer. I am slightly concerned that I wont always make the required number of calls [10 per month/30 per quarter] however – is there any way of checking this online – an up to date billing system etc?

Alternatively, I am thinking of just making say, 10 short calls in one weekend to make sure I hit the criteria – is there a time limit or can I just ensure it connects [to an answer phone say] for a few seconds then hang up?

I realise this sounds a bit sneaky – I’m just trying to ensure that for the months I don’t make many calls, I can not get stung! :o

    Thanks for any advice.

Apologies if this has already been covered, but I couldmn't find anything about this on the thread.

I have a rather dodgy (BT) line at the moment. With this offer, could I get a 'second' line fitted and then cancel my existing line ? I'm not keen on paying two sets of line rentals every month, but would like to use the free offer to get a new line fitted.

Anyone know if this is possible ?
  • I read about this offer here, and seeing as I just moved house and there was no dial tone I thought I'd give it a go.

I ang BT and everything went through ok and they arranged for an engineer to come on July 3rd to install the line, and they insisted that I needed to be there between 1-6pm as I definitely needed to let the engineer in. So I had 6 hours off work (unpaid as I'm a temp) and 6pm came and went and the engineer didn't turn up and still no dial tone.

I rang BT and they kept me on hold for around 20 mins (how bad is the hold music?!) only to tell me they had no idea where the engineer was, so we rearranged for 13th July. So another day off work (unpaid) and yet again 6pm came and went and the engineer didn't show up.

Ring BT again (more hold music) and they tell me they know exactly how I feel (really?) and they are very sorry, but yet again they have no idea where the engineer is.

They then say that perhaps the engineer didn't need to come and they did it remotely, even though they told me I definitely needed to be there the whole time.

So, I've lost 12 hours of wages and I still have no phone line. They left me on Monday saying it might be connected my midnight, but it hasn't, so I still don't have a phoneline.

Sorry for the rant...but I don't really know what to do now, I don't want to go back to BT until I know exactly what I want to say/shout at them.

    Any ideas?

Thanks for your very helpful comment. Obviously you know all about my circumstances and that I need a BT line for some other services that I have provided by BT [the I pay for].

And I would like to say, without sarcasm, that I hope your situation works out and you can get a phone line installed for a reasonable price, as I am sure you have looked at all other options.

My daughter had already ordered new line & 12 month contract, but BT have now upgraded her to 18 month & free installation! Great, many thanks for the advice.

However, she only uses her mob (the line is for O2 Broadband), so remembering to actually make the required calls may be her problem. Does anyone know what BT's penalty would be if the required number of calls per month aren't made?

Presume she has chosen the unlimited weekend call plan, am I right in assuming that if she makes 10 landline calls at the weekend, they will not only be free but meet the qualifying requirements?
    Many Thanks

The penalty will be they will charge her the full connection charge.

If she uses her 01/02/03/0845/0870 inclusive (Not Free) calls at weekends they will enable her to meet the qualifying requrements.
