  • Within seconds of getting Martin's email I logged onto Empire Stores website and ordered their 3MP digital camera. The order was confirmed by email and through the site. Eight days later I still haven't received the camera - I rang them and was told that even though I had, had confirmation it was no guarantee that they had the camera in stock and it had, in fact, sold out. I asked why I wasn't informed and was told that I would be in writing and they would also include their catalogue! Is this just a way for Empire to gain our postal addresses on the sly? I think Martin should report them to the trading standards office, they're useless!

I didn't get the camera as out of stock - they sent the free tv. Tried it last night got lots of noise and no picture - is that normal on these or have I done something wrong - do I need to plug in a different aerial. I'm not expected high quality from it mind

You may get a better reception on their TV than on their customer service line :). It seems it has all gone a bit wrong. Disappointing. :(

Anyway, I have just emailed them asking what is going on. Let's see what reply (if any) I get. Any news on what Trading Standards think?

lol! This eBayer has even relisted it when it arrived as the 2.1MP instead of the 3MP. Shows that the purchase was just to sell on to others! Does this happen a lot??

Empire says it made a genuine mistake....

The camera in this thread was originally advertised a 3.1 megapixel model. Yet many MoneySavers have reported that they’ve received a lower spec 2mp camera.

Empire says that it made a mistake on its website; the camera on offer was actually a 2mp version. We are currently discussing the issue with Trading Standards and will report back.

However Empire does say that if you want you can return the camera for a full refund. Empire has issued the following statement:

“We have made a genuine mistake in describing this product as a 3 mega pixel camera on our website. The product on offer for just £19.99 was always a 2 mega pixel camera.

“If any customers are unhappy with their purchase they are welcome to return the product to us, free of charge, and receive a full refund in accordance with our returns policy.”

THE INFORMATION BELOW IS BASED ON THE ORIGINAL OFFER IT REMAINS THERE FOR REFERENCE ONLY

    A warning from Martin
    • It may sell out. This really is a cracking bargain spot. It's going in the weekly email which is sent to 500,000 people, so the likliehood is it'll sell out. If its sold out when you get here, that's because the email takes 15 hours to send to everyone, we try to change the order each week to make it fair - so sorry about that. It's worth noting some MoneySavers have suggested Empire Stores doesn't have an automated stock system so it may've sold out - even though it says in stock. It shouldn't stop you ordering as you should get a refund if it doesn't happen.... but don't count your chickens.
    • Please don't eBay this. One more thought, I know some people like to eBay bargains like this. Do remember you got this from a Consumer Revenge site, please don't profit out of the info at the expense of MoneySavers who then can't get hold of the bargain
    • Is the camera any good? Reviews are mixed, some say yes, others no. Its certainly not going to be top of the range at this price. However it should take a pic and be some fun
    • Watch for memory costs. With any camera like this a lot of the profit is on the memory cards, places like www.mymemory.co.uk often have much cheaper memory than buying through the company selling the camera. Though I wouldn't invest too much in a big memory card until you've tested whether the camera quality is good for you
Back to the original post which includes the full details of the camera and how to get it

We had the same problem last year. They advertised a 5 mp camera and sent either 3.1 or a camera and binocular set.
I would be interested in the outcome with trading standards as I am thinking of persuing this matter, I kept the 3.1mp camera as I had ordered for presant and had little time to look elsewhere.
Also I told my friend and they used a recommend a friend code and empire stores have stated that they didn't!!! so they will not give me my £25 off!!
ACII and Chartered so now I can focus on learning to play my beautiful Sax. 🎷

My parcel came yesterday. It contained a 'beautiful' 24 piece plastic dinner set, which I have to say, gave my wife and I a good laugh. My children love it though???

No cameras just word that they will be sent when then are back in stock. I'll still keep them if it's the 2mp version they send as they were for the children anyway and only £12.50 each. Don't think 4 and 6 year olds are too concerned about image resolution.

They'll probably like the plastic plates more than the cameras anyway:-)

I have had a 5mp Concord camera for a while .. its white balance indoors is deplorable but outside it takes a reasonable picture (nowhere near as good as my Kodak though). I keep it in the car .. just in case.

Hi, I ordered for the concord digital camera but I got a parcel today with a B&W camera in it. When I called them up, they said they ran out of cameras so they have sent a portable B&W Television free instead and have charged me nothing. Well the TV doesn't actually seem to pick up a signal but I guess I can be grateful for the goodwill gift.
