Most of the time no-one seems interested in the reduced stuff at our local Sainsburys, which is great for me. However, I did once see some old couple scoop everything off the reduced shelf in their trolley, then throw out the stuff they didn't want (over the floor, other shelves, etc.), damaging it in the process. I told them I thought it was disgusting they were wasting food, and as it wasn't theirs it was tantamount to criminal damage - they shuffled and looked a bit embarassed and I never saw them again.
  • i was in my local asda last night just as things were being reduced, some lovely locally produced organic pork joints down from £8 ish to £1.50 so i helped myself to one and a pizza down to 25p the woman next to me helped herself to all the remaining pizzas but funnily enough didn't even give the fresh meat a second glance.

    vegetarian? :p

I really don't understand this thread, if someone went into a supermarket and bought every tin of beans on the shelf would that make them greedy?

Surely if you are shopping it's totally up to you to buy whatever you want at whatever price you are comfortable with no matter if it's full price, on offer, or reduced to clear????
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

What if someone came into say, tesco, on the intention of buying 6 loafs of bread. And saw that 6 had been reduced. Should they not take them all? Seeing as that is what they were wanting to buy anyway.

I dont like the people that block the reduced section with their trolley, i tend to lean over it or move it :D x

ive noticed this in morrisons on a friday , the fresh bread rolls are reduced 12 for 9p this one couple are in there EVERY friday and buy 5 bags of 12 rolls, im sorry but regardless of a big family NOBODY can possibly use 60rolls in a week, i wouldnt mind so much but they block the way so noone else can get anything, they now avoid me as i made a comment to my bf when they were in ear shot, cant blame me really when ive caught them pinching things out of my trolly!!!
DON'T JUDGE ME, YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO. YOU DONT KNOW WHAT I'VE BEEN THROUGH, YOU DONT KNOW WHAT I'VE FELT, OR WHAT I FEEL RIGHT NOW! SO FIND SOMETHING BETTER TO DO WITH YOUR TIME, THAN JUDGE SOMEONE YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT!!!

How do you know that though? If they're buying 60 rolls every week there's a likelihood that they are getting used?

Perhaps they freeze them and use them for packed lunches? Maybe they have bacon rolls in the morning and then filled rolls for lunch?

We have no idea what goes on behind closed doors apart from in our own homes and who are we to judge?

I think this is a good shout.

Many, many of the people hanging around the reduction bins are ethnic. :(

I'd hazard a guess that they're all ethnic ;). I think you'll find you, yourself, are too.

Of course it's not racist to describe someone's race but when there is no cause to do so other than to seemingly lump people of one ethnicity into the same basket, then yes, it is racist.

    what a stupidly naieve comment.

I am not ethnic at all for your information.

I simply pointed out that a statistically significant number of people in the whoops bins tend to be asian or oriental.

It seems almost a shame to quote one meaning of the word ethnic...

Ethnic (definition): Of or relating to a sizable group of people sharing a common and distinctive racial, national, religious, linguistic, or cultural heritage.

I know a family that easily gets through that amount - there are two adults and 5 kids. They are not a typical family - the mother (my bf) was adopted so has given the same chance of a good life to three young sisters, so her kids are 19, 17, 5, 3 and 1. To be honest, 60 rolls in a week would be a conservative estimate - they don't eat much sliced bread so the adults have rolls for lunch and the teenage lads have rolls for snacks, and the girls love a roll for lunch - then they have a cooked dinner with bread available (yes, more rolls!).
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
