I know exactly what you mean, last week in asda, some guy, he was waiting at the bakery and grabbed every single pack of doughnuts, must have been around 50 packs, yum yums and then had the check to ask for more from the poor asda guy!!!
however today in m&s, i saw their new range and they were all reduced - £4 meat down to £1 - i only took two of them!!! lol:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

i was a bit naughty recently, it was about 8pm and i noticed packets of 6 lamb cutlets reduced from £6 to £1.21 so i picked 6 packs up - the sell by date was the day after (i think).
they have been an absolute godsend as i've used them for sunday lunch over the last 6 weeks - family's sick of them now tho.0 -
As I see it, I could afford not to seek out reduced bargains, but I like the thrill of the hunt. If I get a beef joint for £2 instead of £12 then that's kudos to me. The fact that I have some competition for the bargains just makes it better when I get what I want.
I always linger round the cabinets with my basket but never block anyone with a trolley.
If there is nobody else there, I take it that nobody else is interested and I fill my boots.
If it's a competition, there will always be people who want it more than me, but I'll try and get the odd thing. I'd rather everyone gets a little, rather than 1 person gets loads.
It makes logical sense when most things can be frozen or used within a few days.
Just as regards the whole "ethnicity" issue, the proportion of people looking for bargains relative to the number of ethnic minorities I see when wandering around at any other time is disproportionate. It's not racist to say that - it may well be that they decide to go shopping at these times for that precise reason, or because of different cultural differences, the advent of 24 hr shopping has enabled some minorities in society to go shopping at a later time of the evening.
The fact of the matter, I don't mind who I'm fighting for the bargains - just as long as I get what I'm after!0 -
...almost as sick as the racist connotations in your post.
I can't see this as racist - to be honest, I'm fed up to the back teeth with being unable to make a simple comment which contains a reference to somebodys' race. I don't give a monkeys if I'm referred to as white caucasian etc and if somebody is black, 'oriental'-( and sorry, I really can't always be sure if the person is Chinese, Japanese or Indonesian!) then thats what they are ! Just read the bottom of lots of official forms you have to fill in which ask you to tick your 'race' box ! The OP was just describing someone and not trying to make anything out of it.ELITE 5:2

I think this is a good shout.
Many, many of the people hanging around the reduction bins are ethnic. Some of them are however quite polite and happy to only take a few of each item. With some of the others you would think they are going to use the stuf in take-aways etc. as they have about 50 mouldy lettuces etc.

Depending on the item involved I have no problem with getting plenty as long as people are courtious about it.
Other day was lucky enough to spot a piece of beef down from £10 to £2 (Has done 6 lovely meals) and if there had been more would certainly have got them for the freezer. What I find a little odd however is people who get dozens (literally) of loaves of bread!0 -
we dont have the a large amount of the ethnic minorities as somebody worded it so what can the excuse be now?0

The worst people for greed when it comes to reduced items seems to be well to do women & the elderly, in my experience!
I never see any 'ethnic minorities' hogging all the bargains & we live in a very multi cultural area!0 -
Is this not partly because there tend to be more women doing the shopping in the first place ?missingink wrote: »The worst people for greed when it comes to reduced items seems to be well to do women & the elderly, in my experience!

I suspect bargain hunters come in all shapes, sizes and colours!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.
