  • Well a slight change of plan today, we ended up not going to the park for a picnic as it kept raining so instead we went to the local leisure centre that has it’s own soft play area and had the picnic there and the kids burnt off some energy for 3 hours…the bad news is that it cost £7 in total.

We were going to go to the local wildlife centre tomorrow as our weekly trip out, so today has taken its place. To go there would have cost us £23 for the three of us so perhaps not too bad all in all.

I just need to plan something tomorrow and I think a lazy day doing play-doh, colouring and things will be on the cards.

Off to tidy up now…does it never end???

Half way through the week already, another step closer to weekend and 10 days until DH gets paid.

Received an e-mail from Amazon to tell me that they are sending over a payment of £1.84 to the current account so that should be in some time.

DH told me this morning that we are running out of toilet roll, I told him that we have some coming tomorrow. We have one roll in the cupboard and one on the hanger; I very much doubt that we will go through two rolls in one day. I don’t see the point in buying more if it’s not needed.

Shopping total for tomorrow’s delivery is £76.76, total shopping spends for the month: £490.05…that’s horrendous and doesn't include fruit and veg from the market tomorrow or eggs from today! Last months shopping spend was £542.17 so we have saved £52.12 somewhere along the line. This coming month is going to be better it has to be, I think that I need to go back to compiling a shopping list.

Today the kids and I are having an easy day; I need to get some eggs as we have some ham to use up before it goes off. So I think we will walk round to Tesco’s and go to the park at the same time, they can burn off some energy at the same time then.

    Plan for today:
    • Tesco’s for eggs and nothing more - Done spent £1.39
    • Park - Done, just got back
    • Wash up
    • Sort washing out
    • Wash kids cuddlies - They survived and are now in the tumble drier
    • Play-doh, painting and colouring with the kids
Off to do some more thinking on how we can improve things and get motivated, will update later.

Morning ..what a busy week you've had.I know the feeling about shopping I spent £100 myself in Tesco yesterday and I thought that the fruit and veg was really expensive.I think I may start shopping at Lidl/Aldi and greengrocers etc again.

I'm in awe of your organisation and determination Tea as ever. So pleased DD's op went well and that your OH should be secure in his job!

We struggle with the grocery budget too and overspend but there we go! We had a nightmare this week as DS at one point lost his ipod at the services (£150) and his wallet (£30). Luckily we were reunited with both!!! There are some good people in this world!!

  • Hiya SH,

That was very lucky, not everyone would have been so kind enough to return them, looks like we both had some very nice person on our side :) xx

We couldn't believe it - we went to Scotland on Thursday and retraced some of our steps on the Monday and got the ipod back. He'd already found his wallet by then.... We thought someone would have nicked it for sure. WH Smiths had it behind the counter... it must have fallen out of his pocket! He is 11 and is clueless when it comes to things like that but at the same time he bought it with Christmas and Birthday money.....

I was sad all holiday about it because as I said to him - we couldn't afford to replace it for him even if we wanted to....

I have an interview tomorrow for a short term job but on really decent money... will be back to sneaking out for perm interviews if I get it tho lol!

  • Just checked online saving account and Quidco payment has been paid in there instead of the current account. I can't withdraw it as I will lose the bonus interest, so it will have to stay there this time. Never mind.

*waves hand* another one guilty of overspending on groceries:o Our original budget was £200 a month - however we tend to spend around £240, which includes household stuff and toiletries as well as food.

I actually blame OH - if he was veggie like the rest of us I wouldn't spend extra money on meat - but don't say that to him:D

Do you make things yourself? You could always post a typical shopping list and menu plans for people to look through, see if anyone can input any tips?
