Utilities warehouse

Options
I cannot find any reference to this company on the site. It says it has a triple guarantee undercutting the major utility & telecom providers. (except for those people who routinely switch for cheapest deals)

What do people think? Have you made any savings?

    Welcome to the forum.

    What an original post?

You are aware that people "routinely switch for the cheapest deals" but you can't find any reference to one of the the most expensive providers of gas and electricity in UK?

As you just might know, the triple guarantee is about the most worthless guarantee that any Utility provider could invent! - absolutely meaningless!

What is absolutely guaranteed, is that frequently MSE will get posts just like yours, an innocent enquiry about this company they have just heard about?

Well many of us have heard about the company - and detest the tactics used by some of the 26,000 'independendent' distributers.

Just to repeat - welcome to the forum.

    P.S.

If you would like to know why the 'Triple Value Guarantee' (the derisory term is TVG) is rubbish, you only have to ask - or read the masses of information on MSE.

P.P.S. Even the most enthusiastic UW rep on this forum does not attempt to defend the indefensible TVG - they concentrate on the cashback card.

That's because it is Utility Warehouse. As Cardew has pointed out, by using the pre payment card, one can pay less for utilities than with any other company. He is also assuming that you are distributor for the company and as you may surmise from his post, he dislikes it. The triple value guarantee just means that Utility Warehouse will beat the price of the most expensive suppliers even if they drop their prices. You may well be able to find a cheaper deal if you do not use the pre payment card, especially if you stick with on line tariffs and do not want a hard copy of your bill. However, if you want good service with costs shown on just one easily understandable, bill Utility Warehouse may be for you, and as previously stated, if you are prepared to use the pre payment card to good effect you can pay less than with any other company.

I am an Independent Distributor with Utility Warehouse and any opinions expressed here are my own and may not be shared by the company.

Funnily enough, on the thread I have linked to, I have posted my projected deal with UW based on taking 4 services (gas, electricity, phone and broadband) and challenged people to get me a better (equivalent/comparable) deal elsewhere. This calculation does not include any savings from the cashback card (we shop at Sainsburys for food and petrol and my wife, bless her , shops at many of the other designated retailers so, for us, the discount on the UW bill would be very substantial). But even disregarding that discount the deal on the 4 services is very hard to beat, as demonstrated by the paucity of posters who have risen to my challenge.

However even that guarantee to beat the most expensive supplier,(nominally BG's Standard tariff) specifically excludes the Dual Fuel discount and Direct Debit discount that BG offer.

If you really want to see just how expensive UW gas and electricity is, then try any of the comparison websites and you will see that UW are very near the bottom of the list.

That is even after their recent 'massive' price reduction of around 2%.

Nigewick is correct however that I surmised that 'wearyofwelywn' is another of the massed ranks of UW distributers.

What a surprise, a first and only post from someone thats "found" Utility warehouse quoting their guarentee and saying they couldnt find any mention of UW on the site despite the fact there is a MASSIVE thread about UW on this forum.

    I call shenanigans!

Until they take up the challenge as opposed to just ignoring it, I can only conclude that they are blowing out of their derriere. :p
