Try Carmine's challenge.
Carmine has conveniently reduced his Electricity consumption - to fit his case no doubt.
He will doubtless argue that 24mb connection speed is of vital importance as is the free magazine.
The important issue, as this is the gas and electricity forum, is that on his newly reduced energy consumption!(15,000/4800kWh) in Yorkshire, according to Energylinx he would pay £1002.62p pa with EON and with the cheapest UW tariff he would pay an extra £137.85(13.7%) at £1140.47
I am no expert on Telecoms/Broadband prices, but on the MSE forum the consensus of opinion is that the UW package is not a good one or anything like the cheapest.
Most people these days want wireless, which I believe UW charge an extra £5 a month.
I have posted my BT packageI pay £31 a month(including VAT) to BT for:
line rental,
all geographic calls free 24/7,
200 free texts a month, Sent from phone or PC
Wireless Broadband hub with 20gb monthly,
free McAfee comprehensive security package, - firewall, anti-virus etc
call minder,
caller display
Free 0870/0845 telephone Nos
5gb digital vault
a second(internet) phone line with a separate telephone number(calls to many countries abroad 1.25p/min and evening/weekend domestic calls free),
350 minutes a month free internet access on BT Openzone for a laptop(for all my family).
The ability to interrogate BT call minder from abroad.
Freephone help line.
In addition I get the occasional discounts like reduced rental for 3 months etc.
If 20gb is insufficient I can get unlimited downloads plus unlimited wi-fi minutes for laptops in hot spots for an extra £4 monthly.
So it is very easy to get a much better deal than Carmine.
However if Carmine thinks his package even competes with that – then he should get it and start selling UW products to his nearest and dearest – many of us will be delighted when he becomes a UW distributor.0 -

Jesus, when does the 'carmine' test apply to all and sundry? You have to compare and contrast what you need, not some mythical 'test' that apparently applies to everyone in the UK.
For me UW gas and electric prices are vastly more expensive. If any UW salesman wishes to object, feel free........0 -

Absolutely correct!
All the comparison websites show that UW charge amongst the very highest prices for gas and electricity - no argument.
Their Telecoms package can be beaten by hosts of other suppliers - according to the 'experts', even the 'dreaded' BT have a far better package.
However now we will have the clutching of straws by the massed ranks of UW distributors(current and prospective!!!) e.g. one bill for all 4 services, and a free magazine makes it unbeatable.0 -

It's just a little strange that the detractors would have us believe that UW is expensive for all and sundry when it can be demonstrated that it is actually the cheapest for certain people (like me, for instance) even without including the cashback card discount. Include that in my calculation and the 'comparison' becomes even more ludicrous. Our average spend on food and fuel alone at Sainsburys has averaged £100 per week over the last 3 weeks. Let's forget about the £56 we spent at Comet (another UW designated 5% cashback partner) and the £85 we (actually, let's put that down to Mrs Carmine) spent at Boots. Annualise just the Sainsburys spend (not taking into account massively increased Xmas spend) and the 'net' annual discount off our UW bill would amount to £243. That brings MY total gas/electric/phone phone/ broadband/domestic/international calls bill down to just £1144, or £95.33 per month.
My challenge has only ever been my challenge - I've asked you people to find ME a better deal, not anybody else. You say UW is expensive but not one of you has managed to summon your vast knowledge to beat it. It's all very disappointing.
Come on, stop blowing out of your derrieres and beat it! You know you WANT to. So....go on! Until you do, everything else you say has no credibility whatsoever.Yorkshire Region.
Gas 15000 kwhs
Leccy 4800 kwhs
Up to 24mb BB (my exchange is fully capable of exploiting this, btw)
40gb monthly download allowance
Free modem (yes, they CAN have it back should I ever leave! )
Phone Line Rental
24/7 calls to 01,02,03 AND 08545/0870 numbers
10 international destinations included in the inclusive calling package.
Silver club membership
£10,000 accidental death insurance (I don't know any Russian KGB people and don't enjoy sushi so that's one worry out of the way)
FREE calls to CS/BB support
No minimum term contract on any service (subject to £50 exit fee if leave the phone/BB package within 12 months. Your beloved BT would charge how much if you left after 12 months? Almost £200 smackeroos! Nothing with UW).
Chance to refer like-minded friends (hell, even sworn enemies AFAICT ) to receive %tage discounts off our bill (on-going as well!). Maximum of £250 in any month and no reduction on club fees, phone line installations etc.
Free membership of Prospero Magazine and their exclusive discount offers (who knows? I'll have a butchers for nowt).
Cashback card that can mean sizeable discounts off the bill by shopping at designated High Street outlets, the 'biggie' obviously being Sainsburys for groceries, electrical items, heck even mobile top-ups and gift vouchers for other retailers if what has been posted on here continues ).
12x paper monthly bills fully itemised detailing all the services I take.
One monthly DD for the lot.
Anything missed/unintentionally embellished etc?
Total annual bill: £1387.00
Monthly DD: £115.58
THESE FIGURES INCLUDE NO DISCOUNT FOR USING THE CASHBACK CARD. £1144 P.A/ £95.33/MTH with cashback card projected (conservative!) spend. THANK YOU.Call me Carmine....

Had a sherbet or two? You quite correct it is your challenge which frankly has turned into a spamfest with you alleged savings appearing again again.
Every person in the UK have different circumstances, so you test is pointless. Unless are are alleging that UW never take the time to learn what a potential customers may need, and simply sell them the entire UW package regardless of circumstance or need. I fear many UW salesmen just push the package which will give the largest future returns.
The undoubted fact is that UW gas and electric prices are 14% higher than my current tariff. Does that specific fact harm my credibility? Well, if you wish deny their higher prices, putting your faith in their discredited 'triple guarantee' Your own credibility may well be in question.0 -
He will doubtless argue that 24mb
Carmine cannot get anywhere that download speed with ASDL2+. Due to any fact his line attenuation is far too high, which his saving 'fact sheet' fails to mention. Your speed is determined by your line attenuation which is usually determined by distance from the exchange. Although I know people who are close to their exchange, but their line wonders all over first giving them a high line attenuation.
So please Carmine at least add 'speed totally unattainable' on you list.0 -

That indeed was exactly my point!
The average obtainable speed in UK is around 3mb, so they could advertise it as 100mb and it would be acedemic; the crucial term is 'up to' xmb.
As I stated in an earlier thread, I have cable Broadband in a place I own in the USA which is lightening fast - in theory.
In practice for the majority of sites, the download speed is little better than with the 3mb I get in UK.
It really is ironic that Carmine has been the most savage critic of every Utility company and their selling tactics(read his early posts). If there was to be any integrity and balance in his posts, the meaningless guarantees, selling tactics and hidden charges of UW would have provided him with a field day.
It is only that he has his eyes set on becoming a a UW distributor that we get this obfuscating spam.
He knows full well that UW charge amongst the highest prices in UK for gas and electricity; their Telecom package is not competitive either.
He will pin his 'case' on the acedemic 24mb, single bill, and a magazine and claim nobody can beat his challenge!
He really will make an excellent UW distributor!0
