Hi Karen
Sorry to see you are struggling a bit - it is very difficult to break old habits though but it can be done. Well done on cancelling your hair appointment. What I find works for me is on pay day (paid monthly), I take out all the money I need for the month for living on, then I go to the bank to get all the change I need (£1 coins, 50ps, 20ps etc etc - I was so embarrassed the first time I did this - I was thinking the girls in the bank would be thinking I was weird! :rotfl:It's stupid I know, they don't care, they are just doing their job), anyway now it doesn't bother me, then I sit down and put all the money in little money bags labelled for each week or date they are due - e.g. milk money, food money for week such and such, lottery money, window cleaner money. I have the exact money in there to the penny and it's absolutely great. I also have little pots for my own personal spending money, and again I put the exact money in there for each week - eg £4 for such and such a class, £30 for hair, £10 for clothes. Also, for the first time EVER I have started saving for Christmas, but purely from "free" money - scratchcard winnings, £10 lottery win, ebay sales etc etc.
Also, I really struggle with grocery shopping and I know I am still spending far too much on food but what I did last month was to stock up on tins, coffee, cleaning products etc on payday, then I had a set amount left for the month, which I divided up and again, it was bagged up for each day, and this is all I could spend. This seemed to work well for me. Anyway, enough ramblings, but I just thought this might be a wee help to you.

Thank you Primula - that's a really good idea. Might adopt something similar myself. I guess it's all about having the will power to stick to it. I'm def going to give it a go!

Sorry to hear about feeling low Karen, am also struggling a bit myself at the moment as my car needs brakes, a new heater control valve (it is constantly blowing out hot air, not good for summer!), I need new glasses and we want some more furniture bits for the flat
I don't have any sort of emergency fund so I know it will all have to come out of my savings which is not what I want!
It seems like your lists are doing you the world of good! Keep it up, we are all behind you.....not literally of course! :rotfl:

That is so frustrating when things like that happen - you would think it would just be automated wouldn't you!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
