I left my old job 2 years ago ... and this is a very similar post (almost identical) with 1 just element not included.

Not sure where I should pitch myself really (if there is any leaway). Don't want to sound greedy but at the same time if I am thinking to hell with it, I might go for a mid point ie -23,345 and see what they say - it will probably be :rolleyes::rotfl:

I would've thought the available leeway will partly depend on the wonderful  new knowledge and skills etc. IF I understand it rightly (and I'm not at all sure I do given that NHS HR departments contradict themselves, never mind each other), there's a first gateway level after probationary period which is designed to show that you can do the job to a reasonable level. Would've thought you could show that straight off. Then there's another one not far off the top, passing that is meant to show that you are covering everything in your job description to full capacity. ( http://www.nhsemployers.org/Aboutus/Publications/Documents/NHS%20KSF%20Essential%20guide%20for%20staff.pdf ) Not sure what they'd say about that one, but even if you started on the point below that and said you'd have your second gateway review in a year it would still be better than starting on the bottom.

Might be worth going through the job description and noting your previous experience for each bit, just to have it to hand if you need to prove your point. (I know my brain melts when asked these things on the phone.)

    Fingers crossed for you!

well I got confirmation of the interview.

Slight issue - about 8 years ago I inherited a large piece of work which became almost the main part of my job. I turned it around, re-shaped and developed it. It grew very quickly as departments started using this 'tool'. I inherited it from someone who is amazing at what they do, but can do technical but not communications and everyone always said the work had stagnated because he didn't know how to aesthetically develop it. I know I'll be asked about the work and I was going to say how I'd taken it on etc etc etc...........but he is on the interviewing panel  so I can't now say how fab I made it because I know ( as it was his baby) that he never agreed with what I did. Grrrrrreat.

not much else to report. NI refund cheque hasn't cleared yet, which is a booger. I guess it will do tomorrow so I can use the money to pay back the £60 into my savings account, pay the minimum £25 on the CC (statement has arrived today) and the remaining £25 will be part of next months budget.

Rather stupidly used £2 of my daily scratchcard money on a game so am back down to under £5. Next stop is the scratchcard.

Oh, and the merger is really slowed down to an almost 'stop'. Next update won't be until late July so I am going to have to keep applying for jobs because it's all going too slowly at work for me now to get a new job there which is very :( as I just don't want to leave.

I'm sure you can put a positive spin on how you took an already great thing and refined it to suit the needs of the project, without it being an implicit criticism of his original idea.... you say you took the feedback from the frontline staff/users and engineered the changes inline with feedback.

He's gonna look churlish if he reacts in anyway negatively when you speak about it, especially if it's a proven tool in the workplace......

very hard to appear like i know what i'm saying when i can't for the life of me imagine what "it" is!! lol!!!

I think I'll say that he went on to bigger and better things (with a bit of a cheeky grin as he left to join this part of the organisation!) and that I used the solid base he built to move it forward. I'll also say that it was an opportune time for it to grow with the increasing awareness of its uses etc.

I still have no excitement about this whatsoever. I was just putting the dishes away and thought - apart from the money - why am I doing this? And there is no other reason whatsover why I am going to this interview tomorrow.

I even thought yesterday that if I'm offered it, I may well keep looking for something else because I need a new challenge and this is not going to be a new challenge.

It's not the right opportunity for me, but until I'm offered it, then it would be foolish to pull out.

...and it solves your current needs of getting out of debt. Be a tart for a while:D and let them pay it off for you, while you research other, more rewarding opportunities.

well hello there my dear :D Good to see you back - I was wondering if I'd get any more saucy seaside photos sent to me ;) :rotfl:

I guess that is one way to look at it.

I like being a tart. A strawberry jam tart that is :D

There were saucy photos?? Where?? Can I post them on Facebook? :D

BB I agree, be a tart for a while, take the money and run!

If you got the job, could you make it clear to your current employers that should the merger throw up any interesting opportunities, you would be very interested in a swift return?

hiya Snags - all the jobs will go to existing staff - lots of people to be squeezed in as it is!!

Well, here I am, showered and hair washed. Dry it in a bit and completely de-motivated about where I am going today.

I know what I'm like though - I'll walk through the doors and I'll go into interview mode and sound keen, enthusiastic etc

Off to check if my NI refund has cleared.

One of my shares is performing well, I'm tempted to cream off £100 profit it is currently showing to help with the budget for next month - every penny is very sorely needed for next month!
