I can't get excited Maz which is stupid
I don't want to leave where I am, but the reality is that there is nothing for me in the merger apart from 1 post and I'm nothing like guaranteed that. The salary for this job is 20k full time, 17k for 30 hours - I've seen both options in adverts! 30 hours would be better as I could teach in the evenings - well, teach full stop, but 17k isn't enough to live on, I'd still need to teach and AQA to top up my salary AND try to tackle my debt.
I really need a job around 21-22k to be able to really put a proper plan into action. Oh, not to be in a situation where it's a single salary coming in!!"Stay Wonky":D

in light of your experience and previous jobs, would you not maybe be able to start further up the scale??I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
there's nothing around. The kind of level I should be aiming for is middle management, but there's nothing locally, Dorset has never had a very good jobs scene. I was on 28.5k when I left my old job, that was towards the top of a Band 6 (of 8) and was quite senior other than heads of department/Associate Directors etc.
ooh, I see what you mean. No, policy is to start at the bottom of the band (5 in the case of the job I have the interview for).
Wow..........I've just checked the banding........if I'd have still been there - 2 years on..........I would now be on just under £34k............I think I might cry...........why did that stupid foofing cow have to come into my life and do what she did........."Stay Wonky":D

Is there not a case for starting up the scale 1 or 2 points as you are already in the organisation? and have done a higher banded role before, relevant to this particular post...I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
It is policy at my place of work to start at the bottom of the scale.........for the right person though they can bend the rules;)But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0

no - I'd be re-joining the organisation I used to be in - well, a different arm of it, hence why I could have contact with Cruella (she is director of the same department at my old place), nothing from the past would be relevant.
It's just policy unfortunately - I've mostly worked in government related organisations apart from 1 job in private industry many years ago so negotiating pay deals isn't done that much unless you are a really senior (ie Director) manager."Stay Wonky":D

Good luck for the interview. Are you going to be wearing those fabulous pointy pink shoes you mentioned?
I'm with LouiseJ on the bending of rules. If you get offered, there is no reason why you shouldn't try to negotiate. If you would like more bare-faced cheek to do it, we can do our best to inspire you...;)
Have fun with that wii fit...:j0
