me too, and mine was also lovely. SiL asked for the recipe and was quite astounded when I said I slung the gammon in the slow cooker, poured a can of coke over it, left it on high for 2 hours, turned it and left it for two more.
She was convinced there was more to it than that0 -
I've been into Asda and got gammon this morning 'cos they were on offer, so there's 2 in the slowcooker now. I never thought about putting Coke in.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

How long should I cook these in coke in slow cooker for - getting really confused now trying to calculate times. Need to be ready for 5 pm today. Would 6 hrs on low do it? Don't want to poison anyone!0

I would put them now in on high covered with boiling water, leave on high for a few hours then maybe turn down. It will take a while to get the middles up to temperature... better overcook than under.
Sorry, I see you mentioned coke, in which case I would heat the coke up first. In microwave or a pan?June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

A comment on this recipe says low for 8 hours

8 hours here too

Though this one says low for 5 hours

I would maybe do high for an hour and then low for the rest - so it heats up and cooks through but then gets a chance to get tender with the low, slow cooking0 -
I always do 2 at once as 1 isn't enough to feed everyone.. I throw them in about 12ish and serve them up about 4:30/5ish and they have always been nicely cooked I don't have them touching in the SC though and I don't add anything else to it.. just the gammon.
so 6 hours would do it though I'd check them an hour before to make sure they aren't drying.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I'm gona try the whole pork in coca cola in a slow cooker on Monday, just to see if it really is as good as people make out.
But.... what kind of pork exactly do I have to get? As in what does it say on the packet? I have no clue what joint I'm supposed to get, I'm guessing it's one with no bones in?
I know pork usually comes with strings tying it together, do I take these strings off before or after cooking?Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

I know lots of people use a gammon joint for it, but any other big joint would do I imagine. If you're slow cooking, it's a good opportunity to use a cheaper joint - with the long cooking time and the cola tenderising the meal, it's probably not worth the expense of getting a better joint. Lots of the recipes online that don't use gammon seem to use shoulder joints, if that helps.0
