I obviously know how to crumb bread, but would appreciate instructions for making breadcrumbs for coating food prior to cooking it please.0

Whizz them in a food processor, or dry out bread in the oven and crush with a rolling pin.0

I use the very fine grating disc on my food processor. Put the bread in, in chunks, and breadcrumbs come out.
To breadcrumb food you need to coat the food in something which the breadcrumbs can stick to. I normally dry the food off with kitchen towel, then dunk it in my coating (I'll come back to that in a minute) and then into the breadcrumbs. Sometimes you have to help by pressing the breadcrumbs against the food. (Breadcrumbs from stale bread tend to work better than from fresher bread).
beaten egg or melted butter both work quite well. If I'm breadcrumbing chicken I like to use melted butter which has lots of garlic in.
Hope that helps0 -
You can always just use a standard grater if you don't have a food processor, but it does take ages!0

I just whizz with a stick blender:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Slightly different answer but I had a pack of dried stuffing mix in the cupboards (left over from xmas) so instead of using breadcrumbs to coat my chickin in the other night, I used that.
(after dipping it in flour first, then egg.....)
It was really, really yummy!!!Dogs have owners, CATS have STAFF...0 -

You can buy breadcrumbs, I saw some in Sainsbury's the other day. I remember thinking, why would anyone want to buy them when surely they're easy enough to make, but I suppose if you only want the crumbs and wouldn't eat the bread then it's a bit silly buying a whole loaf.#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET
