HypnoNu - as someone who ended up signed off for quite a while I know what you mean - I didn't WANT to be off sick - I wanted to be allowed to get on with my job but work made it so difficult to work round the problems I was having that in the end I gave up and asked to be signed off... They could have had about another 7-8 weeks work out of me if they had only been more accomodating and less narky about things... But noooooooooooooooo - they had to get difficult and refuse to let me work from home - which btw was never a problem before I got pregnant and isn't a problem for anyone else in the team either... dafties... :)
Anyway - don't feel guilty about it... if the doctor doesn't feel you should be off sick then they wouldn't sign you off :) so enjoy the peace and quiet :)

  • Do work really have to let you carry holidays over. my company has always made it really clear that hols have to be used before the end of march or they will be lost, and we cant take them until we have accrued them so i thought i would have to lose 2 weeks holiday.

Sami - could you save the old covers for your HB, i was planning on saving all old towels and bedding for mine.

Hypno - sorry to hear about your work troubles, but glad to hear your GP is on board!

mooki - happy news that you and your DH have cleared the air! Sometimes it just takes a really huge fight/breakdown for all parties to see they're being silly and resolve things.

This week is going to seem soooooooooooooo long, as it's the 1st 5-day week for me in quite awhile! (with holidays & bank holidays and all) Glad May BH is so soon!!

If you can't use them till you have accrued them then they have to let you take them when you return - you'll probably find they have slightly different rules for people going on maternity leave if you ask :) You certainly shouldn't loose your holiday :)
You will probably find that because you're going on maternity leave they will ask you to take it before you go on ML as it's a given you will accrue the holiday during that period (and don't forget any bank holidays in the period if you are entitled to them in accordance with your contract :) )

Yep - our policy says we can carry over 5 days and no more. It will depend on what your policy says. I told mine I was saving 4 weeks up to take after mat leave but because MrsT had mentioned on another thread that they had to agree it I emailed them saying that if I couldn't I'd have to take it before. They agreed it was OK and I got it in writing as well.
So I will have 4 weeks plus the bank holidays that I accrue whilst I'm off :j

Tine, I didn't really have BH with Aimee... Not like the ones I get with this one! I definitely prefered the not getting them...

I had a bizarre nights sleep... I found myself lying the wrong way down the bed... Which hubby found amusing... But it was ever so comfortable! Other than that though, another patchy night where I woke up every time I needed to roll over...

Got the stoopid midwife again today... Can't wait to see how they measure me this week... Oh and if they can extract any blood from me... Won't hold my breath...

On a positive note though... My Dazzle just arrived :D the shop called at 9:15 and asked if I'd be in at 9:30... Then it turned up in the back of a car... Think it's because we live so close, probably worked out cheaper to bring it themselves than courier it... I've had a sneaky peak at the accessory pack... (The bag is pale grey, like it will stay that colour for long lol) But waiting for official permission from hubby that I can open the buggy box and check the contents...

Basically - you cannot be disadvantaged by taking maternity leave - that includes loosing benefits you would normally be entitled to like holidays and bankholidays :)

    Simples :)

    Good Morning Everyone

Congrats AM on OH's new job and hope yours get another one soon Feelie.

My DD got out of hospital last night :T

It feels strange though sitting here in my own ward with nowhere to go now, as I have spent the last week only sleeping here and being with her in the childrens ward all day.

A girl I had gotten really friendly with in here, had her baby last night. She was admitted the same night as me, had exactly the same condition as me and was due the same day, we would have both been 26 weeks today ( and both having girls ). We had a lot of similarities and really clicked together.

She took a massive heamorrage(sp) yesterday and her baby was born by emergency CS weighing 1lb 4oz. they are both stable and I will hopefully get to see them in the next few days, but OMG im so freaked out and scared, because thats going to happen to me soon.

I wasnt in the ward when it happened, but others here have relayed the details which sound like something from a horror story.

Its left me feeling really shaken.

Aww Mrs Moc, you might not go the same way as this girl, fingers crossed you can make it up until the planned section date :) Modern medicine is fantastic and every day your baby spends inside you is another day getting ready for being born :)
