I never used one for Aimee, although once or twice the Dr gave me saline nose drops when she had a cold... Funnily enough he gave her some more the other day but I haven't used them because she's big enough to blow into a tissue... Will save them for the baby...chopsticks wrote: »The other thing that isn't on my list is a bottle warmer. I just thought a jug of warm water would do but then somebody said to me that if you get a cooler/warmer type one, you can take it upstairs and night and it will keep the milk cool until you tell it to warm it up. That way you don't have to traipse up and down the stairs in the night. What do others think? I'm planning to BF so haven't put it on my list as even if/when we do move to bottles, there will be plenty of time to get one after bubba is born.
This is not a great idea, milk grows bacteria, that's why the government recommends making up each feed individually at 70 degrees or higher...
Re. the cotton buds, yep for boogers
. Obviously, I won't stick them up bubba's nose but was going to use them to clean round the edges.
One of the books I've been reading mentions that when you leave the hospital they give you an aspirator and the author said it was one of the best things she bought. The book is US-based so I know I won't be given one, but was wondering about getting one or not. There is one here at BabiesRUs. Not sure whether it's worth it though. Has anyone else used one? It looks a bit scary to put up bubba's nose

chopsticks, I think SB has one of those bedside warmer things..
Ooh, thanks for that. Hopefully she'll see this and let me know how useful it is.Have you tried sleeping with "the long bit between your legs" yet?
:rotfl:Yep, I did and it semi-worked. The only thing I found uncomfortable was laying on the other long bit. Is that what you do? I'll try and explain what I mean...bump is resting on the actual V, one long bit is between my legs which means the other long bit has nowhere to go but behind my back so I'm laying on it. But, because it's only the width of about one third of my back, it's not that comfy. Am I doing it wrong?
I have seen this recommended but it's £40 so don't want to get one unless it's really necessary. DH said that if I want one I should get it now so that I get as much use out of it as possible but it isn't cheap. I'm just not sure :rolleyes:0 -
re cotton buds - MIL has some with a tiny bud that can't get stuck anywhere cos then they get really fat! I think they are from Boots and are called Safety Buds

Typical - no picture!
Thanks Glam, will have a look at those.0 -

Thanks Krystal. I haven't seen anyone with one and it doesn't appear on any of the lists I've seen either so I did wonder whether it was really necessary.
Re the milk in bottles, thank you for the info. Even though I am planning to BF, I should really look into the bottle guidelines (and, actually, put some powder on my "things to buy" list) just in case I do end up using them.0 -

I sleep with one of the long bits straight to my body with bump resting on that with none of the pillow under my body then the other bit between my legs. Try pushing it down a foot or so
I tried having it more like you describe last night but I couldn't get comfy with my boobs resting on the pillow too!
My OH said the same about the £40 one but we always fall asleep with him curled up behind me so the other little pillow on it would have gotten in the way cos that's where he usually is

Oh, meant to say this the other day.. There was a notice up in our doctors saying that the local hospital was stopping providing anything for bottlefeeding mums from 1st April. You've now got to take your own bottles, formula, bottle brush and steriliser stuff (microwave bags for ease?). They used to provide the SMA readymade bottles - presumably they still have them for if you go in with the intention of breastfeeding then have problems..

A couple of different hospitals have tried going down that route Elle... It causes a lot of hassle for them via the media...
If you go in with the intention to breastfeed and they have all the right support systems in place then there's no reason for them to have formula for those who have problems...
I also wouldn't recommend buying any for 'just in case' either... There's always the notion that you've paid for it, you might aswell use it... Whereas if there's nothing to fall back on then you're more likely to succeed at breastfeeding... There were a couple of times I thought I might give up with Aimee and I think if I'd of had formula in the house at 1am then I probably would of caved and given her a bottle... But because I didn't have the option, I stuck it out... And I'm glad I did...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... It's obviously not been in place long enough for the complaints to appear on our local newspaper website.. Only a matter of time, I'm sure!
They are very pro-breastfeeding. Posters everywhere about it and monthly "intro to breast feeding" sessions. One of my old school friends is training in breast feeding support right now - her baby is about 5mths old so she's giving practical demos to the groups!

Hi,
I have a dreamgenii, whilst not exactely money saving its a good buy. Although my partner moans he can't get near me in bed ! It's comfy when you sleep on your left hand side but i'm not so keen on it on the right as you put the long bit through the back of your legs.
