What really infuriates me is that grammar is not taught as a subject in schools now, I am horrified when I look at my son's school books and see that teachers do not correct spelling mistakes let alone grammarBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

Money_Saving_Mandy wrote: »Finally in response to those that still continue to post RE spelling and grammar. I find it very discriminatory that those of you who consider yourselves to have excellent abilities in spelling and grammar, feel you need to comment on other people’s postings. How presumptuous of you to think that there may not be people using these boards that have learning disabilities, dyslexia, or any number of other special educational needs – how do you think people would feel coming on here for help and advice and being shot down for not getting their spelling and grammar correct!
How presumptuous of you to assume that people with learning disabilities cannot spell!
I was at University with many dyslexic students - and every single student with learning difficulties on my English degree course fought like hell to ensure that they could spell and punctuate correctly.
It is far more difficult for a person with learning disabilities to read non-standard English. This is why text-speak is actively discouraged, if not forbidden, on most open forums.
It is equally important to remember that there are many many people in Britain for whom English is a second or third language. Again, non-standardised useage discriminates against them.
There is a REASON that we are all taught to spell, punctuate and use grammar in the exact same way. It is so that we can communicate easily. Typing quickly (or in my case typing slowly because my hands don't work very well and I often miss the keys that I am aiming for altogether :rotfl:) leads to typos - and that is an easy mistake to make. What people are unhappy about are the repetitive and all too common grammatical errors that prove the lamentable state of education in this country.
I cannot for the life of me understand why somebody who professes to know the correct way to write would choose not to
I can also 100% guarantee that nobody making those kind of mistakes would have graduated from my University.
I had stopped commenting on this thread until now - I was just waiting for somebody to throw the "dyslexia" issue into the ring.Living with Lupus is like juggling with butterflies0 -
I think I shouldn't be getting into this debate really and am writing against my better judgement, but I don't see how you can guarantee that ridiculous statement. There are a lot of very well educated people who can't/don't spell. Someone who is a genius at maths but useless with words will still graduate. For subjects involving more writing it might be harder, but lots of people still make mistakes. Anyway maybe someone should start a new thread on some other board - I'm not sure there is an appropriate one. People post here to ask for help, not so they can be jumped on with criticism from strangers.purplebutterfly wrote: ».

To the OP I am not sure I have any advice about your phone, but good luck. I am interested to learn the outcome.0 -
My friend lost her phone, didn't even realise till I called her to say that some bloke was calling people on her phone to find out who it belonged to and could I get her to contact him to arrange pick up.
Now thats a nice honest person
I've lost count of the phones I've found on the walk home from work - I pass 3 schools
and all of them have been from the kids. I usually look up mum in the directory and leave them a message and get them to pick it up:rotfl: Do unto others etc etc but teenagers must be sooo careless!Noli nothis permittere te terere

I have just caught this thread and read it through (minus the pointless spg checking posts, sorry, I just find them tedious and boring).
I liked the advice given above about opening the package in front of a trusted person- maybe go to the police station with all your evidence- eg copied out ebay pages, the box your phone came in and any contact you have had with the buyer printed out.
Hope you get somewhere with this OP!0 -
Back to the issue at hand..............
Any news OP? Have you received the phone yet?Official DFW Member 716 - Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
Proving that the seller actually stole the phone would be very difficult. Even if they were questioned by the police they could just say that it was sold to them at the car boot sale. The police wouldn't be able to prove otherwise.
All that COULD happen. I think, is that the seller be made to refund the cost of the phone as, if it was proven to belong to the OP, then the seller had no right to ownership of it and any money he paid for it would be his loss.
A prosecution would be almost impossible unless he owned up to nicking it."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
The phone has arrived today so my mum has informed me, so will have a look tonight. She's opened it - being nosey she said, not that she would be able to tell! There is the Orange logo / branding on the back (again like mine).
Also the post lady left it by the back door. So if it is mine, then I will definitely be able to get my paypal refunded as they will have no proof of delivery.
Until I investigate more....0 -

so you are willing to commit a crime against the post office by saying it was not delivered, this sounds like the pot calling the kettle black,if he pursues the post office the post lady will be in trouble for trying to save you a trip to the post office to collect it..Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
