Thanks so much everyone! Lots of inspiration!anniemf2508 wrote: »http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/744/apple-muffins.aspx
i make these pretty much every week, you can change the fruit in them each time and you could make mini muffins instead.
These look good, It reminded me I've made apple and banana muffins before. Pear would be nice too - pears are nice at the moment. One word

weetabix cake i nicked off another thread
2 crushed Weetabix
1 cup of sultanas
2 cups of Self raising flour
1 cup of sugar
Mix these dry ingredients together, then add
1 cup of milk and a teaspoon of mixed spice
Stir again and pour the mix into a greased loaf tin, bake at 325 degrees for about 45 mins.
Thanks for this! I forgot all about weetabix cake. I made it before and it was a bit like maltloaf which I LOVE

Just a wee tip: if you ever get a takeaway and you get the wee plastic tubs of garlic mayo or chilli sauce, wash and keep them as they are perfect for lunch boxes. You can fit a kiddie-sized portion of fruit in one very easily, and my wee one has usually 3 in her lunch bag. They will even hold a wee fairy cake perfectly so it's not squashed by lunch time.
we don't get a takeaway very often, but I have still managed to gather up quite a few of these little tubs and they are invaluable. Oh, and they are leak-proof too. So I pop one full of salad dressing into my dh's lunch, so he can have crisp salad and dress it himself.
Good idea. If you haven't any of the above, try buying those little square tubs that are marketed for homemade babyfood. Usually come in packs of 6 with white/pale blue/probably other colours lids, £1ish in supermrkets, poundshops etc. They are perfect for little pots of salad, fruit, raisins etc (and for freezing tiny quantities of left over peas, rice etc) and squeeze in those little extra gaps in lunch bags. Also the lids are quick and easy to get off but seem to stay put til they're needed. My eldest DS often has 2 or 3 pots in addition to lots of other food as he has hollow legs. Youngest DS doesn't eat that well as best of times (and when playing time calls....) so even a tiny pot of chopped up fruit actually eaten is better than a bigger one untouched.
Can't remember now what's already been posted. Scones, teacakes, hotcross buns (mine eat them as they come), breadsticks (and little pot of cream cheese, humus (sp?) etc maybe), rice cakes, crackers as well as usual fruit and veg. Jelly? Mine love a pain au chocolat (not home made but in packs of 10 in Lidl for about £1.50) for their Friday lunch bag treat when they are allowed something non healthy like crisps.
sorry just re-read thread and realised you asked for homemade and most of mine aren't but might help someone so will leave.

nigellas rocky road bars are good for lunch boxes
(so long as you are not looking for a healthy snack:D)
i changed her recipe a wee bit
she uses best quality dark chocolate and tea biscuits
i use value/smart price milk chocolate
and i use digestive biscuits instead of tea biscuits
we just prefer the taste and texture of the digestives,
they cut well, and are very filling
(i did post his pic on another thread yesterday, so apologies to those who have already seen it:o)0 -
I finally got round to making the savoury flapjack recipe off the forum. Wow, they are gorgeous!!:D I usually take a packet of Nairns cheese oatcakes for work but these are so much nicer..
Cant wait to try the other recipes!!, esp Twinks...:)0 -

Shame Twink's recipe is mentioned but the credit not actually given to Twink. Martin has included in the first post in this thread.
