Hi all,
im trying really hard with my meal planning, shopping etc, However the problem i am facing is the kids are eating me out of house and home when they come home from school. Does anyone have any ideas for inexpensive snacks that will keep them out of my fridge and cupboards til dinner time. Ive got 4 children ages 15,13,12 and 8

Carrot sticks with hummous?
Have you checked that they are eating at lunch time also? Teens are terrible for skipping meals.Life is short, smile while you still have teeth0 -
teens are well known for snacking. I would stock up on Breadsticks and dips - boxes of crackers and jars of chutney (buy cheese in bulk)- buy medium sliced bread instead of thick, for them to make toast (more slices, goes further), get them into the kitchen to make snacks themselves - while they are making a pizza at least they aren't raiding the fridge! make homemade crisps from a variety of veg (plenty of recipes online) and generally make them work for their snacks!0

they so want crisps I have this battle with DD!
I'm not sure how much you want to spend but a pasta/rice salad or a butty/wrap - even soup, maybe crackers, its a funny time of year it's going warm now so might not feel like anything hot - but still a bit chilly in that biting wind!0 -
Mine are quite happy with toast or a cup a soup - they will quite happily eat the supermarket savers brand which work out at less than 10p each
. Second buying the medium sliced bread instead of thick as one slice of toast is psychologically one slice..

I wouldn't give kids anything heavy or fatty snacks before having dinner as its not very healthy. I would stick with fruit, raw veggies, yogurt, milk and maybe a slice of toast or crumpet etc but nothing too heavy.

My teenage sons love the teabread from the recipe that's on this forum. I add cinnamon and mixed spice too. It's cheap and easy to make.
we have a rule about what can and can't be eaten without asking.
They can help themselves to fruit and snacks from my snack tin or a drawer I keep in the fridge. Anything else they have to check.
Also crisps are 1 pack a day, they can take them for lunch or have them later but not both.
All my kids made their own pack lunches once they started secondary school, so if they made it themselves the couldn't say it wasn't what they wanted.0 -
I have always baked flapjacks, oaty biscuits etc
also offer crackers, cheese, spready cheese, hummus and veg,
jacket pots as I but a sack of potatoes, fruit and yoghurts.
I buy yoghurts, bake for the week etc so when gone they are gone always somehting to eat but choice gets less as week goes on0 -
Cake or muffins are ideal or my daughter likes those packets of noodles you can buy for 7p from Lidl, bananas are also a good filler upper, and banana on toast with cinnamon is a good quick snack.0

I like to get the grandkids to help make their own teas -pancakes are a favourite as now they are old enough to use the cooker they absolutely love to toss pancakes. then fill them with either jam or mashed banana and either squirt on lemon or cream or just a sprinkle of sugar. in the half hour it takes to make them - they aren't munching!0
