Dishwasher tablets - how much do you use?

Thanks!
I did try leaving the wrapper on but thought the only way to split the table then would be to smash it, which aways seems to leave the ball bit on one side only.
We've got really hard water where I live so don't think we could do without tablets with salt etc. in them - which I don't think the yellow tesco's powder has. Or am I missing a trick here and buying more products than I need too?:j Go on, shake your money maker! :j0 -
I have very hard water too and even with full tablets I still needed salt.
So now I use powder - which is cheaper, and keep up with the salt.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. i find you can usually break them just with your hands - still in packed. i don't cut them!
i live in a hard water area but use salt in the machine and rinse aid, as well as whatever tablets were on offer when i needed them!Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -
The tablets we use have salt in them as hubbie now refuses to put salt in the machine due to the problems and expense the salt caused us (see my original post for our horror story of using salt seperately).
I suspect using half a tablet that includes rinse aid and salt is cheaper than buying powder, salt and rinse aid - but I could be wrong so I'm going to cost this up and have a look.
If its cheaper I'll try to convince him to change but if not looks like the jnr hacksaw and I are going to become good friends. I agree Bizzinmum a little gillotine would be good!
Thanks:j Go on, shake your money maker! :j0 -
I have been using the fairy ones with the plastic on and the liquid in the middle as they were buy one get one free. I would not bother again as the stains do not come out of the tea mugs or tea pot using this!!!!
I will def try the powder next time - where do you get the soda crystals from?
Thanks

Uhmmm I asked my ex's dad (very nice man...
) who used to servcie washing machines and dishwashers and the like for a very bi brand company
And he said he's seen maybe a handful of cases where the salt has coroded the machine to the point of it needing replaced in his lifetime... and he was doing servicing for about 25 years so he really wouldn't worry... same as he says not to bother with Calgon... waste of money! Vinegar and soda crystals from time to time on a HOT cycle does a much better job!
I would return to using salt again (make sure you use dishwasher salt) and save on your tabletsI use the little ball ones too (got huge box on special offer ages ago and still working through it! and I try to chop them in half and just accept that every second wash has a little didy ball and the other doesn't

you can buy soda crystals in the supermarket and wilkinsons. i think they're usually under 60p. i use it in the washer too - it means you can use less powder / only one tabletMum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0

ohh, it's funny isn't it as I love the fairy ones! I stocked up when they were BOGOF but once they've run out I'l be switching to powder.
I find that if you buy a bottle of normal washing up liquid and add a tiny drop to the dishwaher when you're loading a lot of the cleaning is done in the pre wash before the tablet is even released... mine always come out sparkling!
Oh.. Hi btw! I've been on this forum awhile now but never get round to saying hi!Starting my DMP Journey.0 -
Lidls dishwasher powder, £3.79 for 3kg - I think. Beats finish tablets even with their powerballs !?! hands down. it makes glass sparkle like nothing else! I don't put salt in the dishwasher I have a water softener instead, helps the washing machine and shower too.0

Hi
What i did to break my dw tabs in half was to keep the wrapper on, and put half the tablet on the work surface so the other end is hanging off, then push on it with my hand it worked every time.
I don't have a dish washer since i moved boo hoo i miss it so much.0
