I tried those washballs from QVC a couple of years ago and have to agree.  I sent them back before the 30days for a refund.

    Hi all,

OK, I'm new here and have had a hunt around, used the search, but can't seem to spot my question, so apologies if you've been here before.... but....

We hate washing up with a passion round here and hate piled up plates. So finally we are getting the DISHWASHER that we promised ourselves once we moved. A lovely Miele which uses little water and is recommended. Anyhoo, the question I have is:

"Which dishwasher tablets should I buy?" :o

I frequent Sainsburys mostly, and have a Co-op down the street also.

Cost is important but not top of my list. I want clean everything that goes in the dishwasher and I don't want that problem of plates and glasses and pans etc getting knackered after a year or two of dishwashing like used to happen at my parents years ago. I know washing formulas have changed a lot since those days, as have the machines....

I live in a fairly soft water area if that matters.

So what are your experiences of dishwasher tablets to get great washing but not a hole in your pocket.

    Thanks everyone in anticipation!

    Mark

P.s. Apologies I may have put this in the wrong section. I am new here as I say and its a bit complicated to choose the right place! :o

I havn't got a machine but I've read on here that you can snap the tablets in half and just use on half at a time. Hope that helps

Lidl's tablets are effective and cheap. I stock up when they have them half price.
My Doctor told me that "1 out of 3 people who start smoking will eventually die." The other two apparently became immortal.

  • I like to buy the own brand supermarket ones. I tried Finnish and was less pleased with their product than the others. I think with us also having relatively soft water the "super intensive bells, balls and whistles" type are overpriced and may leave a residue on the dishes.

Lidl have well priced tablets which work and, although this contradicts what I've already said, if you look out for Adritt brand you will find they are the Continental name for Finnish but much much cheaper.

Thanks for the lowdown. Lots of useful tips in those links. And I would never have thought NOT to use the tablets at all! The washing powder advice and vinegar rinse aid is a great one.

Just make sure the washing powder is not a highly perfumed one! I made that mistake!

It's a case of trial & error to see what works best for you. If you look on https://www.fixtureferrets.co.uk it will tell you which supermarket has them on offer. I use fairy - bought 4 x 75 boxes in Costco last February for about £12 & haven't started the 4th box yet!
