Dishwasher tablets - how much do you use?

  • Amazing. I bought a box of the 'value' branded dishwaher tabs expecting them to be rubbish but guess what they're actually pretty good. They are about a third of the price of the Tesco '5 in one' tabs and about a quarter the price of the Finish ones.
    I am well pleased.:j

    Hi CherryRipe,

As we have a current thread on dishwasher tablets I've added your post to it so others can easily find your recommendation.

We've been using Asdas SP dishwasher tabs.. only £1.50 ish a box and they work just as well as the expensive ones (we just finished a box that cost loads).

Hi there I have reduced the heat on the dishwasher to the 35degree cycle instead of the 50 degrees and now use a teaspoon of soda crystals and a teaspoon of any dishwashing powder and things are coming out just as clean, the time taken on a lot less and hopefully the electricity usage has reduced. (mind you I am using soda crysals for everything!!!!)

  • I've recently switched from the Asda own brand tabs to Lidl's W5 tabs (box of 40 was about £2) and they are superb in comparision to the Asda stuff.
  • I use the tablets from poundstretcher - £1 for 20, so 5p per table. I cut them in half and also use the "quick" wash (1/2 hr) cycle on the machine for most of my dishes. They come out just as clean as they did when I used a whole finish all in one tablet. Mind you we do have nice soft water, don't know if that makes any difference.

We have a slim line half-size dishwasher. My argument is that because it's half the normal capacity, we only need to add half a dishwasher tablet for cleaning the contents. My OH disagrees and thinks this is the ultimate meanness. Comments please

actually, Primrose, I have a full size dishwasher and only use half a dishwasher tablet :o:o ...how mean does that make me?

Honestly, it works absolutely fine and I only use the cheapo dishwasher tabs from Aldi. The only time I ever use a full one is if I have some really burnt on stuff that needs washing. (oh, and if my DD and family are here and she loads the machine.....she can't bring herself to only use half a tablet!)
  • I'm with Bobbykins; half for us too!

I also have a slimline dishwasher and i put half a tablet in (the value tesco ones as well :o ) and have no problem whatsoever with it, even on the economy cycle everything comes out great....Even dh knows to only use half a tablet now which is a feat in itself!!
