Dishwasher tablets - how much do you use?

I used to use the 4 or 5 in 1 tablets (whichever were on BOGOF) - then as an experiment I tried Tesco Value dishwasher tablets, their cheapie rinse aid and salt (which still works our cheaperthan the 5 in 1's) and we thought the results were actually better - everything came out dry, and clean (no niggly bits left on anything). Now I've found a farm shop nearby that sells huge sacks of granular salt, it will be even cheaper!:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

I use the cheapest I can get, but find it hard to halve the powerball variety. Half is fine and seems to get everything clean.Resolution:

Use the adritt ones but use salt and the rinse aid as well. Always worked well for me in my Bosch.0

Hi moneypanicker
We've recently changed our dishwasher, so it's all a bit new to me, so I had to ask OH
He recommended Finish 5 in 1 and Finish salt. (I should add that we tried Wilkinsons and Morrison's own (??), - (both no good) but haven't tried the Lidl ones - or using half (?) but will do).
The plumber recommended throwing the tablet into the bottom of the dishwasher, instead of in the compartment, and that works ok too - touch wood
We live in a hard water area, but the machine lights up when salt's needed, if that's any help?Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive. ~ Sir Walter Scott0 -
Homebargains do 'Clean and Fresh' dishwasher tablets 20 for £1, they wash fine - I've seen the same tablets in different branded packaging, they're a generic product.
I don't think the brand makes much difference, whenever we've had problems it's been down to the dishwasher - jets on the rotating arms clogging or the filters moving out of position and letting bits of dirt recirculate.0 -
Hi,
I work for a well know kitchen company. On a training day for appliances I asked about using the 5 in 1 dishwasher tablets. I was told not to use them on their own and to always use salt and rinse aid in addition as no manufacturers recommend the 5 in 1 tablets. They may recommend the brand but not the supposid all in ones.I have always bought Wilkinsons own dishwasher tablets and usually but them on buy one get one free so it works out at £1.99 for about 40.
Apparantly the rinse aid helps to dry the dishes and if you don't use it, you will get white marks on your glasses. Salt does something to the internal parts and helps to keep the machine working properly.
Hope this helps0 -
I use the more expensive one's from Lidl, as well as their salt and rinse aid, on a regular basis.
My dad recently bought some of the Finish Power Ball tablets, and gave me a couple to try.
To be honest, I didn't notice the difference between the expensive Finish tablets, and the much cheaper Lidl Adritt tablets.
I did try the cheaper Lidl ones (cant remember the name of them) ages ago, and didnt think they were as good as their Adritt Perfict 5.
So I will be sticking to the Lidl Adritt version for now.

I use the Adritt from Lidl and the salt and rinse aid from wherever its cheapest but I also always rinse off the plates under the tap first to keep the inside of my dishwasher from getting too smelly. Dont put wooden spoons etc in it as they go mushy!:j0

Don't forget you only need the salt if you live in a hard water area. Many of the all in one tablets contain salt.Books - the original virtual reality.
