  • Well, i've just unloaded the first wash and some of it was still wet! It was mainly the plastic stuff that wasn't dry - is this normal? I guess it will take a while to get used to it. I used a fairy all in one but today i've got a finish one to try.

If you use a five in one are not not supposed to use rinse aid and salt doesn't that make the cost even higher?

Wow it amazes me how much money detergent and dishwasher manufacturers manage to make from us by inventing more and more products to buy!
I have an old dishwasher (been here 7 years it was quite old when we moved in). All I use in it is dishwasher powder and the occasional dose of salt. The dishwasher powder is about 3 quid for a 3 kilo box that lasts at least a couple of months, and I've only ever bought salt once in the seven years we've been here! (I discovered about the salt when, after a couple of years, the glasses kept coming out cloudy :o Took me a while to figure out where to put it!).
There isn't a compartment for rinse aid. Everything comes out clean and dry except plastic containers.
My dishwasher's a moneysaving machine! :money:

I find plastic items such as Lock & Lock always come out wet.

I tried the 5 in 1 tablets and my machine was producing too much froth and when I read them it says not all machines are able to use them. My Bosch which is about 7 years old certainly cannot use them and I use the cheaper Finish powder which is under £3 for a large container and last simply ages - we have never used salt as live in soft water area and very rarely use rinseaid.
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j
  • I just use tescos own brand powder for the dishwasher in the yellow tub. Along with own brand salt & own brand rinse aid. Also white vinegar can be used as rinse aid.

I have seen an ad on tv for a finish product that apparently dries the plastic stuff. The beginning of the ad shows a harrassed woman drying a plastic container. Cos its so difficult to dry something

I give the dishwasher an empty very hot cycle from time to time as well. I don't use the expensive specialised dishwasher cleaner stuff.

Just a cup of soda crysyal, a tablespoon of bicarb & white vinegar in the powder bit of the machine.

Just wanted to report back on this thread.

Have been trying Lidl Adrit 5 in 1 dishwasher tablets. Not much difference to Finish - OH's not noticed/not commented so am not likely to go back to finish when I can pay £2.99 for 40 tablets that do the same job very nicely! ;)

    Thanks for the tip :D
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?
  • Adritt 5-in-1 are easy to cut in half and I do not put anything else in. works perfectly, I do live in soft water area though.

I use the cheapest I can get, but find it hard to halve the powerball variety. Half is fine and seems to get everything clean.

Me too........ cheapest ones I can get, snapped in half and never had a problem. However, mentioned this on another thread and got slated by a DW engineer (well that's what I think they were  ) saying this was a bad thing to do. Also all the old style tips on using vinegar, washing powder etc.

Never used the other suggestions but the one to snap the tablet in half was brilliant idea. I have never had a problem and I haven't bought any tablets for ages.
