yes i wondered this too, we have been sent the income and expenditure form and not sure if its some sort of trick, some sort of delay tactic ?
Does it look like this?

2 from the bottom "statement of means/income and expenditure calculator"
If it does then it is a standard approach to financial hardship ie they have to assess you for hardship with an I&E form. I now advise to get it sent in with the first letter to avoid this issue of delay. However, I have been collecting them over the months so I might not have had it when you first sent it in.

EDIT: I have edited the above this evening because of a mistake with the address which I made this afternoon. Apologies for the error.

I have just received a letter from the Halifax they have offered me £126 for two of my accounts together. I am claiming £3214 plus int £404.42 = £3618.42 for one account and £1883 lus int £403.30 = £2286.30 for the other Totalling £5097 without interest. I was disgusted as I am so hardup I am going to have to go bankrupt but was waiting for bank charges money to come back to me first to see if I can put a dent in the debt. I wouldn't mind but I have never owed a penny until I got married and my husband has left me in 42K worth of debt following years of abuse. I have 2 children as well and no home now either, so we are in rented. I claimed my charges from NatWest and they paid back every penny but deducted my overdraft and closed the account. which is fine. Plus they have been really helpful all the way through. How can one bank be so good yet the Halifax have been terrible to me from day one. The offer of £126 they said is for charges for this year alone. Plus both account are now with debt collection agencies who are harrassing me for the money. One in particular is constantly calling me and sending me letters. I've been to CAB so everything is in hand for now and I am offering a £1 to clear the overdrafts even though if they returned my charges the overdrafts would be cleared easily. I've got no option but to fight it but it's really hard as I am always having to fight my ex-husband every few weeks as he still thinks he can just carry on being abusive and playing his hurtful games. Sometimes its just hard enough to get out of bed without constantly having to fight someone or another. Why isn't life just a bit easier????? I'm sure it doesn't have to be this hard with such horrid malicious people in it!!!!!

I just spotted that so I will definitely come back to you later as I dig for it. Cheaky blighters.

EDIT: I made the mistake by adding something that shouldn't have been there.

That should sort out the problem.

• I was wondering if it was too late NOW to start a claim for charges? I have been ok not particularly going overdrawn etc until becoming unemployed in April 2009. Eventually I have found myself in bother, with my latest Job seekers allowance payment of 120 (for two weeks) about to be swalloed up by 105 worth of charges for two direct debits not being paid and an overdrawl charge. I am beside myself with worry, as I see no way out

and just a thought but maybe you can get your job seekers allowance paid into a separate post office account, that way you wont lose your money from direct debits.

Hi All

Success!!
Bank - Alliance and Leicester
Claimed - £420
Received - £1064

Contacted A & L back in Feb, requesting advice and suspension of charges due to hubby being made redundant, completed I & E form but charges continued to accumulate leaving me in a position where I couldn't offer my debtors a payment as it was all being swallowed up in charges - £300 in total in Sept alone.
Anyway, received letter on17th Sept offering £1064, which was the total of the charges since January - still have £100 coming out on 1st October though.
This will help pay up some arrears!!
Am still negotiating with First Direct (previous account) for £700 charges - wait and see!
Thanks Moneysaving expert, this site is A++++

Update - Alliance and Leicester refunded the £100 charges that came out on the 1st October too !!!
• Well, Halifax are still stating I am not in financial difficulty! I had 3 letters from them today, one to tell me this, another with more charges and the 3rd - the best yet - to inform me that I am £544 over my overdraft limit and if I do not clear this amount within 7 days they will start court proceedings, they are also charging me daily interest on the amount!

The stress of this is now making me ill and miss work. I have followed all of the advice on this website but they still do not consider me to be in hardship.

Just don't know what to do anymore. I have opened another account as advised but still not received my account details - payday in 3 days but nowhere to cash the cheque that is coming as I have asked for all of my payments to be put on hold!

My case has been ongoing since April this year for hardship but original claim for charges made in September 2007.

What do I do now?

Apologies if I have asked the question but do you have priority debt arrears?
Are any of the arrears being paid off?
