If you do a full request for hardship, are there any marks put against you in credit scoring?
I'm having an extremely hard time and my bank irresponsibly gave me an overdraft facility months ago which I can't now re-pay. I'm owed over £1,000 in bank charges.
Any advice gratefully received.0 -

Have you started the process of reclaiming the bank charges?
Do you have priority debt arrears(mortgage.rent, council tax, utilities)?
The bank cannot give you anything if you say no to them so whilst I can probably understand what you mean I'm not sure they are entirely to blame for the use of the overdraft.0 -
Hello All!
I've sent my letter off to Alliance & Leicester to claim back any charges that have been taken from my account, but I was still getting charged £5 daily for being overdrawn until today, when I rang up and spoke to a Credit Controller about being in financial hardship.
She immediately refunded me £190 and put my bank account back into credit, god bless her!
I hope this could help anyone who hasn't tried this route yet!0 -
Bank: Barclays
Total Claim: £6500 on 3 accounts, no interest added.
Goodwill gesture paid: £4000 ish!!
Sent the claim off to Barclay just over 2 weeks ago. Have had a really difficult year as I returned to university and we were living on my husbands salary and any part time income I could pull in. It just hasn't been enough to live on as we have an enormous, high interest fixed rate mortgage (with Northern Rock no less), and we got caught in the reserve trap like so many others with Barclays accounts. As this was on 2 personal and 1 joint account you can imagine the charges were pretty heavy! Its a situation that is very difficult to get out of as so many of you have observed.
Although my husband has a reasonable income they did not even request an income and expenditure form as it was probably clear from the accounts that our difficulties were genuine. This money will be enough to clear the council tax and other arrears we have and most of our Barclays overdraft. I have opened a basic account with another bank and will make very sure we never get into the same difficulties again.
I wouldn't have gone for it if it hadn't been for this site and everybody's stories on the forums so thankyou!
As for the remaining money from our claim, lets keep our fingers crossed for the end of the court case!0 -
Incidentally I also claimed some money back on Barclyacard last year using template letters from this site.It was very easy. They paid the full amount after the second letter and barely put up a fight. If you are doubtful or worried about a hardship claim then I would support the advice to chase up any credit card charges. They paid me about £800.0

Bank : Barclays
Total Claimed : £1660 / £1200 of which were "personal reserve fees"
Goodwill Gesture : £476.25
Time Taken : About 4weeks
Sent all my letters with the fab templates from this site about 4weeks ago..sent back my budget planner about 3ish wks ago, and just checked my account and there was a "goodwill gesture" of £476.25
Very happy as i didn't expect much as most of my charges were personal reserve charges. Great outcome and pleased with the time it took too!
Thank everyone xx
