We are going over for the Bank Holiday weekend in August. We are staying at the Caleta and will be visiting The Dell, Mons Calpe Suite and The Rock Hotel.

Of the approved venues these and the Caleta are our preferred venues.

Its the 2nd time around for both of us and we have 4 children between us. Our plan is to have just immediate family to the Wedding, hopefully next summer and then delay the honeymoon to the following spring. This is for 2 reasons; firstly the children will be in school next spring so easier for childcare and secondly we are hoping to go to The Maldives and April is best weather-wise.

After we have visited we can then decide on which venue and start planning :T

B usy time for you then Deb!
Can you imagine your children's faces if you told them that they'd have to take a cable car to your wedding! lol
Lots of people get married in the Dell, which is near the cable car station and then take the cable car up to the suites for the reception.
My dd is being very kind to me and everything is on terra firma! lol

I think the children will love it but not me if I am honest. I have done it before and wasn't keen.

We will do it again in August and if I still hate it then that will help us decide.

What is everyone doing re hair/make up/flowers/cake/photographers? I think we could do most of the rest of the arrangements ourselves but its these bits that we may find easier using a coordinator for.

    Hiya

I've booked a photographer on the Main Street called Luis Photos, he's been there since I was a kid and has a really good rep. His shop is like a treasure trove, its full of photos going back years and years. I could have spent hours in there.

Flowers and hair im looking into when I go over next month. Moms sorting my cake in Torrie and make up I want to do myself because I like the way I do it.

    Hi

Hope you dont mind if I join in this thread. Only the middle of last week did my other half and I finally decide we want to marry in Gib :D.

My parents and my brothers and their children are already booked for a family holiday in Spain in August so as I wanted to get married in the sun we thought we'd try Gib (I fell in love with the place - ok and in lust with a young Gibraltarian when I was 18!) My dad wont fly so the Caribbean is out! and my OH doesnt have any immediate family left so at the moment it looks like just 14 of us. It will be a surprise for all the family who wont be told anything until we get to Spain as we want it to be a simple wedding without anyone making a fuss.

We have spoken to The Caleta who have the date we want and they are holding it for us but we cannot get through to the registry office. OH spent all day on Friday ringing to try and book the date and got the answerphone or continuous ringing. We have sent an email but dont really have the time to wait for a reply.

Does anyone have any tips on times to phone as obviously we cannot arrange anything else until we know we can wed.

    Thanks in advance
    Kaz

ETA - just reading the beginniing of the thread again and want to give people some info that we have. We will all be staying at the Marina Real apartents in Duquesa (dad has had a time share in the area there for 20 years so knows it well) and they are lovely. 2 years ago we all went out for Dad's 70th and we had a fab apartment, straight out of the patio onto the garden where the pool is, and outside the garden gate is the beach and a little chiringuito.

My brothers flew into Gib with Easyjet but we previously flew into Jerez with RyanAir which is a much quieter airport and it is incredibly easy to drive down from there to the Sol. This year we are flying into Malaga as the flight times were better and we couldnt go into Jerez as there we no flights on the day we come back.

When we go to Gib we take our hire cars and leave at La linea and walk across the border because the queues of traffic waiting to get across are horrendous and take ages. We will then get a taxi to where we need to be, what it costs in money is saved in time.

Oh, and car hire prices for Spain are rocketing so book as quickly as possible, some quotes we have had for a small car for 10 days in Aug this year have been £700 - £900, but still managed to get one at £215 with EconomyCarHire a broker in the UK who we have used before.

    Thanks Herbiecat

On Friday we already sent email after not being able to get hold of anyone so hopefully if we can try ringing again tomorrow we might be able to tie it up. Then we can start looking at other things - with 9 weeks to go

    :mad::mad::mad:

We still cannot get through - the office is only open from 1 - 230 (their time) and we have been trying constantly and getting the answerphone everytime. No response to Fridays email and we are now trying the fax approach. I'll be going off the idea again soon (it was 1997 when he first asked me :rotfl:) as it will be too much hassle!!!

    Hi Kazmeister,
apparently government offices in particular only work mornings during the main summer months due to the heat!

It took the registry office 3 days I think to reply to my daughter and it took the dell about the same to reply to me. We are still waiting for confirmation of the time from the registrar, the date is confirmed we just had to decide on the time.

I think that Gibraltar pretty much works like Spain where everything is taken at a slower pace, but I did hear that the registry office gets on average 200 emails per day so you can imagine it's quite a slog to get through them.
I know it's frustrating but all I can suggest is be persistent!
You can always come and vent here - as I have already done! lol
    Keep trying!

We have had a standard email today asking us to copy our documents over to them but they havent actually said whether they can do the date we want . Does anyone know if you have to send a copy of a previous marriage certificate if you have the decree alsolute, is so we're stuffed as neither of have them as we had to hand them in to get divorced. Helpfully they didnt answer that question in our email !!
