OK, I'm planning on appealing my recent decline by Capital One, since there's really no reason on my file why they should have. I've drafted a letter - would anyone who has successfully appealed against them mind proofing it for me before I send it off?

I've been declined from Abbey. I guess it's because of repeated applications (with different cards/banks), but is it worth appealing? I have a student account with Natwest (it was upgraded from Adapt account that I've had since 2002 so it shows as 2002 with the CRAs). I also have a Natwest Student Credit Card (£350 limit, I spend a few hundred every month but pay off in full every month, on time - only had it for 3 months but paid the 2 statements on time so far). Also have a o2 mobile contract since May, just got my 5th bill from them so unsure how many are on my credit record, but I've paid all 4 to date in full and on time. I've been at this address for 3 years and 3 months.

The main reason for appealing is that I am a student (I guess that’s partly what led to my rejection), but I am looking for a part time job (fairly confident I’ll get one as my timetable is good with really long days when I am in but then complete days off). I don't have to pay my accommodation fees, but have been awarded the full grant and loan (it's about 6k split over the year) from Student Finance - this is guaranteed to be the same next year too due to my personal circumstances. I feel that this, as well as the job, would give me a chance if I appeal, as I'm guaranteed 12k income over 2 years plus money from a part time job, and I have a good history - my only outgoings being food and "entertainment" :P. Oh I have £3,500 in an ISA (Natwest) too plus about £750 in Abbey's current account (which is a 5% one so works out better than using a savings account).

If it is worth appealing, I'm not sure what to do about the Natwest student overdraft. I currently have it all in savings (I’ve only had it for 2 weeks though so maybe CRAs haven’t got hold of that yet). If they have, maybe I could change this to a positive..."as I have no current need to spend the overdraft I have transferred it to my high interest account with your bank", then show statements from both accounts and highlight where outgoing from one is incoming to another. Or just leave the bit about the overdraft amount completely and hope that everything else is ok?

Anyone think I’d have a chance if I appeal or is it a waste of time?

Also, I've always wondered this, is my credit card balance £0 (as I always pay it off in full) or is it what is shown on the last statement (£126ish due by xxx, which was then paid)?

    Thanks :)

Sorry i am just really annoyed about it. such a waste of time to get nothing out of it. lol

Just go into branch and get the agreement printed/signed in branch? Can this be done....? Maybe stclair/kavanne etc will confirm if this can be done..

I have repeatedly asked just that and they have repeatedly refused and said not possible. They are not even trying to get it resolved promtly. Being honest i had enough of it now and feel like i dont even want the card now because if this. I thought it will be simple to just go in my branch and sign but they said no. It has to be the original one they posted,,even tho i never got one posted to me.

OMG - what a nightmare, but as you've figured it is normal for NatPest...... just wait for it to come and sign it etc then after you've benefited from having it, get rid! What limit and apr did they offer out of interest?

  • Hi all

I was wondering wether anybody has been sucesfull in reinstating suspended credit card accounts.

I was able to reinstate my suspended capital one classic card back in feb 2008 and they reinstated my £1100 credit limit and then upped my limit to £1700 on my 4th statment. I did this by making a payment of £250 upfront to help clear some of my outstanding balance of around £800.

I am looking to try and get my barclaycard reinstated as this was a 6.9% apr fixed for life card.
Does anyone have any advice on how to go about this and are there any template letters available to send to them to consider my request.

I have paid back over £1400 over the last year and there is only £250 outstanding. I have a payment arrangement of £6.00 a month at the moment.

    Many thanks:o
