Syl...i spoke to BT this morning about the free call allowance ..they told me that it's 2.15GBp per month of free calls..BUT this only applies ot offpeak, local calls. Other calls will be charged at their 'usual' rate ( whatever that is!!). I am a bit miffed that no-one at BT told me this during any of my previous conversations with them about the free call allowance. Not exactly 'upfront' with theri information.
Also..yes. you can view the cost of your calls to date, from the website, if you register for that facility.. however, this amount will include any non local& offpeak calls you have made. BT told me they cannot break this down into call types until the bill is prepared ( and by which time, it's too late to use up any free minutes you may have left that month!!)

    ================================

This is not what it says on their electronic price list at

    http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/current/docs/Exch_Lines.boo/12641.htm

which shows the call types included (including national calls).

My guess would be that the person you spoke to recently was wrong.
If you need to know for sure then I suggest you call them again, ask to speak to a manager and read out this list to them.

I will add any further information when I get my own bills (which may be a number of weeks/months).
  • Thanks to you both for your replies. As the talktalk tariff included off peak local calls for free it wouldnt be worth using the bt call allowance. It will only be worth using it for peak rate calls. Thanks for the info, I will check out the website and maybe give them a ring myself. Will keep you posted as to the outcome. As I have only just changed to talktalk also, it will be 3 months before I receive a bt bill.

  • Have just checked out the link to the bt website, it isn't the easiest thing to understand is it? Still doesn't really clarify when the calls can be made, not to me anyway. If anyone reads it differently be grateful to know. I will give BT a ring - watch this space.

They (BT) used to promote it as being worth X mins of off peak local calls - which is true - but

The allowance you get on BT standard line package includes all local national and 0845 calls (not 0870) peak and off peak, so worthwhile making sure you use it for calls not includfed in TalkTalk
Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.
  • Thanks I will try and use the allowance, hope I dont exceed it. Have you any idea how many minutes of peak national calls that would be worth per month?

  • Hi all,

Just received my monthly BT phone bill together with the ‘update’ leaflet that comes with it.

The update leaflet states that there are to be changes to their ‘Value Plans’ as from 1/11/2003.

    The changes are as follows,
The price of value plans will be increasing by 50p per quarter.
The associated call allowance will be decreasing by £1.00 per quarter.

Just thought that I would share this information with you all.

    Leo :)

It specifically says that national and local calls are included.
There are no restrictions shown for peak/off peak calls.

Therefore my reading of the document is that ALL local and national calls are included.

I will try and confirm what happens when I get my bills but there are NO retrictions for different times of day shown anywhere that I can see in this document.

    Thanks for the info Leo.
Any idea what a "Value Plan" is.
I have done a search on the BT website and come up with nothing (they seem to not promote/hide certain things).
