After reading some of the above posts, I was wondering if my current phone and ISP providers costs were okay ........

I am currently with BT option 2, and my average monthly phone bill is £25.00. I would really prefer to be able to make unlimited calls at peak times, but think that bt option 3 is expensive.

My ISP is AOL and I have their unlimited usage package for £15.99 per month.

Am I getting a good deal, or being ripped off ??

Any advice will be gratefully appreciated !!

    Natalie

I decided to investigate the ITplc line provider as mentioned in the article, but there is a £24.99+VAT charge to move your line from BT to ITplc, I think it should be mentioned in the article!

    Cheers, Des.

I have just re-read through the 'Cheapest home phone system' article which has already helped me change to just dial saver. Thanks.

    I have a question however.

The article mentions the difference between internet users and non-internet users and the different packages associated with these two options. I don't quite understand why you have chosen just dial saver (£4.99 a month for unmetered evening and weekends option) as the best option for internet users. Just dial saver does not (according to their web site) include 0845 and 0870 numbers in their free minutes.

Have I understood the article correctly or am I missing something?

    Cheers

Ads, Yes you missed something ;). I think you may have missed the line at the top of the summary bit which says

"The reason for splitting out internet users below, is certain accounts require you to set up & receive bills via the net, hence they are only open to web users. It has nothing to do with billing you for internet calls."

    Hi !
I need some help here !
We are using BT Together option 1, though we are ery light users of local and national calls (not more than one call per day big maximum adn short ones anyway!)
Very heavy users of international phone calls through Telediscount France, USA, Australia and Uzbekistan mainly).
Very Very heavy broadband user (web camera and video conference) with Tiscali 15.99 per month.
Do not have any mobile phone and so far do not need any.
We pay to pay every 20-30 pounds and would like to cut this cost down. I heard about Talktalk but I am not sure that it is that interesting and that we could keep Tiscali.
Thanks for your help and advices !

There is a way for TalkTalk users to pay only £6.50pm for unlimited 24/7 calls.

    Have a look at:

    Hello Iskin.

Talk 1 is cheaper than the BT option1 that you are on at the moment. The calls during the day are cheaper(2.7p/min) and after 6pm and also at weekends you can talk for 70 mins which will only cost 5.5p. Calls to mobiles are cheaper too.

It will work with your Tiscali Broadband. A friend of mine has both of these services.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello

After reading Martin's update of 28/4, I am considering switching from BT to ITplc for my telehpone line rental, but before I go ahead I just wanted ask if somebody can help with a couple of issues:

    1. I currently subscribe to Onetel and 18866, which I use very frequently for calling abroad. I know that Martin says that CPS won't work, but for Onetel and 18866 I use a manual override code, so I'm hoping that they'll still work with ITplc...
    2. I have a digital TV box with which I also access the Internet, purchased from BT, and which connects to the provider through the normal telephone line (not broadband) simply by pressing a button on the remote or cordless keyboard, no modem. Will this still work to access the internet if I switch to ITplc?

Sorry if this sounds a bit daft, I'm not too technically minded...

    Thanks a lot

This is against their terms and conditions which you can find on their website.
I do not know whether it is technically possible.
You need to weigh up whether it's worth it.

    The relevant clause is:

4.7 Under no circumstances is the customer allowed to use an alternative Telecom supplier to override or bypass IT services either through the installation of equipment or through the BT local exchange, any such changes or bypassing the IT network or services may result in suspension/termination of services without notice to the customer or extra charges maybe added, without the written approval of IT.
