I know there is not much time left to make use of the free call allowance with BT standard tariff, but seeing as how I have just switched back to this tariff, can someone please tell me how the allowance works? Is it spread over the quarter (i.e. so much per week) or could you use the whole allowance in one week, or even one day, if you wanted?

    Thanks

Yes it's available as a lump (£6.45 a quarter) to be spent how you like.

I have the BT standard line rental £9.50 a month and One Tel 4.99 evenings and weekend .

As a result of the new charges by BT , I will have to drop the One tel , take advantage of the new evening and weekend call package on longer calls and then use the 18866 route .

Any other ideas people for a low user eg I try not to make call during the day other than by mobile free minutes

Does anyone have any experience of Equitalk? They seem to offer a good deal with one month free and a FREE UCI cinema ticket via the link i was sent by Greasy palm, but I would appreciate anyones comments before I sign up. I currently use OneTel and they are fine its just I do not like Centrica who own them after a very traumatic experience with British Gas - also owned by Centrica or they were at the time. :o

I see BT are advertising how many customers have come back to them this year, what they fail to mention is how many customers have left them this year too, I suspect they have lost more customers than they have got back! ;D

Sorry, just noticed this, so hope my reply isn't too late, may not affect you anyway (or anyone soon :'( ) but ...

Smartass replied "Yes it's available as a lump (£6.45 a quarter) to be spent how you like"

That's the case if you are billed quarterly - but if billed monthly, it's £2.15 and doesn't carry over. ie don't spend £6.45 all at once if you are billed monthly.

after listening to some wise words on radio 2 im here to reduce my phone bill as well as my credit card bill.

im a little confused about the phone providers, my bill is quite low at the moment with BT about £25-£40 per month.

    according to your article:

    LOW USER
Rule of Thumb: anyone making less than 20 eve & weekend landline calls per week

    Main Provider
    Talk Talk 'Talk70' basic package

    Override Provider
Internet users: 18866 for calls to landlines daytimes, and mobiles all times

wouldnt i save money just by using the 18866 service ?
can you give me an idea of savings on a £25-£40 per month phone bill ?

    thanks

Jon - You sound like you don't fit into the low user category. 18866 will reduce your phone bill; to find out by how much you will need to analyse exactly what type of calls your bill is made up of.
