In my working life (over 20 years in admin/receptionist/secretary roles) I have had two truly awful jobs which made me physically ill with stress. In fact one of them was so bad that I was in tears most days at work (along with my colleagues) as the boss was so horrible. I was one of the longest serving staff - at just 5 months!!! One day we had new starter who lasted just until lunchtime before he walked out, as he'd had enough!! Surprise, surprise, both these jobs were with family run companies. I would never again work for a family/couple as they are the worst, most unprofessional people to work for. They think they can ride roughshod over their staff. The minute I left both places I felt a million times better. OP you don't have to put up with bullying.0

the funniest part of all this is the mamanger take holiday when they feel like it at a minutes notice, but 2 months notice of proposed holiday is 'not enuff'.
HILARIOUS.0 -
Linapingpongy is probably a bullying boss herself - she sounds exactly like one.
I've always worked for nice people, until now!! So I know what you are going through.
There are good employers out there and the bad ones will just get the staff they deserve. Word soon gets around about them too. No employer in their right mind would want a bad name.
Two months is quite sufficient notice for holidays unless they've already got other staff off. In which case there should be a holiday rota on the wall where all staff can check if their holidays are clashing before they book.0 -
Suprisingly, there is no-one taking holiday when I requested it and also he's ok'd a holiday for someone in May (today) which is even less notice than i've given.
Its so difficult when patients think he's gods gift, if only they knew!!
Thank you all for the useful comments.

There's ALOT of criticism of the OP going on here, and from people who frankly I don't like the sound of. I couldn't work to your restrictive and controlled lifestyle. You've been brainwashed to conform.
You might think this is the way to run a relaxed workplace but for an employee it is the workplace from hell where holidays are controlled by bullying structures.
If everyone has to request holiday time in advance and must wait for it to be agreed everyone gets the same rights to holiday and everyone's holiday is secure.0 -
Hi
I hope everything at work is being sorted out. I walked out of my job after 4yrs due to a spiteful manager. . . And i wasnt the first!
I cant believe some people who have commented on this post how dare they think they know it all a accuse people of having an attitude problem when its clearly them with the problem!
Maybe people should be more supportive you never know when you might be the one in that situation!!:mad:0 -
Hi.. things got worse - he suspended me for gross misconduct, even though I had done nothin wrong, hence why I didn't leave because I wanted to prove that I was innocent in it all. But I think its for the best, I'm just waiting for him to dismiss me now (had my hearing on Monday)
I know some of the people that posted on here were very judgemental and really should have just stuck to the questions asked and just been supportive, after all thats what this site is for. x0 -

Did you have a contract of employment and has he followed a proper procedure which you've been given a copy of?
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0
