I would smile sweetly say sorry if you feel it's is short notice, but as I don't have a written contract yet, perhaps you could confirm what notice period is needed for me to book holiday to make sure I avoid problems in future? ;)

Then wait for him to make up a reply .... 6 weeks was usual at the large law firms I worked for ;)

And yes, look for another job too.

    Newlywed..

why I had not thought of that I don't know. Thank you, will see how far that gets me.

I thought it was around 6 weeks, but I knew he was a difficult man to work for so gave 2 1/2 months instead. Oh well.

    Thank you :D

    Hi

    Some great advice given already
Except the wee in tea one LOL
And the recording one not sure it would be admissable anywhere so prob no good
You have other worries & it is possible that along with your boss appearing to not comply with employment law,you are maybe less rational at the moment & this will make you less able to deal with these issues ?
Have you thought of seeing your GP if you cry more easily & feel emotional you may well be depressed ?
"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."

All truth goes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Then, it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.

You bosses do not sound very pleasant and although they are bullying you, you have given the ammunition to fire.

The holiday is the crux of it.
Whether they are bullies or not, you need to request holiday time before you book them. If they say no, they are well within their rights to do so.

If you go anyway, its unauthorised leave and you will no doubt face the disciplinary consequences that go with it.

If one of my employees came to me demanding holiday and not asked for the time off in advance, i would say no aswell. Its courtesy to do this.

My advice would be to just get on with your job as best you can because there would a queue a mile long waiting to replace you.

I always found being sickly sweet and apologising for causing problems before asking questions over holiday entitlements and holiday refusals usually worked ;)

I'd report him to the Dental Council too. My friend worked for someone similar to this (although he was a GP and her a nurse). It turned out he was ripping the NHS off fraudulently too! Erm, its fairly safe to say he's not doing that any more!

Keep looking for a new job, you'll get one sooner or later. You'll make yourself feel better by taking some action and getting applying for jobs.

Correct. Without the other parties permission this would be completely disregarded. Written records with accurate times, dates, number of colleagues present, with names, their reactions to comments are all extremely valuable.

    Not quite.....

Recordings made without one of the parties knowing are frowned upon as it gives the person that does know a great advantage. However, it still does prove what was said and may be the only option if you are dealing with an out and out liar!
