Congratulations on the DLA award, at the mo re your In Cap claim, just wait to you get the letter confirming the award then send them a copy of it.

I know how you feel I worry about everything, put please try no to worry, you can get a blue badge as you have high rate mobility, if you have a car you can also get yoyr car tax for free.

Just take eachg day at a time, I know its easier said than done, but plz dont worry. Your claim will be back dated to 11th jan on the date that they recieved the form then the money will go into your bank account 4xweekly.

Do you think they will expect me to attend a medical or have the home medical I requested with the incapacity renewal if I send them the dla award letter?

I dont drive a car so I will just use the badge, my daughter drives but I don't think they would allow me to have a car with her as driver would they? Having the money instead helps anyway and will help me a lot because if I have to go out its always by taxi or car and although you are supposed to get help with travel to hospital they only pay the bus fare cost not taxi cost. Not only that you have to go to a different dept in the hospital in order to reclaim travel costs which is usually a long way from the dept you are going to so its not worth claiming it. So this will help a lot with mobility for things like that
    Thanx

You did really well, it may be worth getting hold of your CAB, as I know in our area there is a centre that does an assesment on your needs you self refer and they loan you the equipment free of charge as long as you need it, whether thats a stool to perch on at the sink, a toilet frame, bed raisers etc.

Another avenue worth looking into, is via ur gp, or if your under hospital consultant, as our local hospital as a clinic called DARRT, its basically to do with people who have had falls, and need help with equipement etc, I dont know whether all health authorities use the same name, but if you want the name of the hopsital / health authority I use, pm me and I will send you the details, then at least you will have another option to look into.

I'm not quite sure who you mean by 'they' but... you could get a car through motability, using your DLA award, and have your daughter as the named driver (for the insurance).

I'm completely shocked, I just rang again to see what the status on my claim is and she told me on the phone that I have been awarded on reconsideration that I have an award of High rate care and High rate mobility. I'm totally floored how can it go from no rate at all to high rate on both? Its for 2 years I think to 2011. I'm really amazed at the moment because really it has not taken that long and I did not have any cab or welfare officer to help me. I applied for the form I think 16th Jan and I think she said that its until 16th Jan 2011 I was so shocked though that I didnt take it in. She said a payment has gone into my bank already for the backdated payments.

Do you think this will effect the incapacity benefit renewal ib50 that is still waiting? Should I tell them? I'm dreading if they say I have to go for a medical there.

I'm such a worrier though I'm worrying about having to re-apply in 2011 but thats the way I am.

By the way would I be able to get a blue badge? the one that allows you to park in disabled bays? an I guaranteed one as I'm on high rate mobility? I do not drive a car myself but it can be used in anyones car can't it so long as I'm in it?

Well done! We all told you to go for it. It's very strange how it somehow takes some while getting your head round getting the award etc but actually very common.

I will give this one some thought I didnt know it was posible to do this but thinking about it I suppose its right really as not all disabled people drive a car. By they I meant the DLA I didnt know they allowed it

Well done Lady K. I`m chuffed to bits for you. When my daughter got DLA for the first time it came a few weeks before xmas and I didn`t know how I was going to be able to afford christmas presents. I spoilt my daughters rotten and I think you should spoil yourself too. I know you have problems going out but you can treat yourself via the internet. Well done you for the persistance.

Am I now exempt from having an atos medical as I have been awarded hrc and hrm? is this what people refer to as pca?

As I wasn't on DLA when they sent me the ib50 form to fill in I couldnt tick that I was getting it as I wasnt then. I should get the award letter soon and can send them a copy but as I already filled the ib50 form in will they still be able to make me have a pca or medical?
    Thanx

I honestly have no idea - personally I would ring them and let them know about your award asap. Getting DLA and IB are completely different so you can't guarantee that being entitled to one will entitle you to another but it is evidence in your favour.

Totally agree, there done by different departments, but will go in ur favour.

Just a thought re mobility car, u basically exchange ur mobility money for a lease car, but as the car would be urs but ur daughter would not be able to use it unless she was doing sumthing for u or u were in the car,
