Hi, thanks for your replies everyone. Sorry to hear that you're all feeling down too, and really sorry to hear your bad news lovethymini. That must really difficult to cope with.

I'm feeling a bit better at the moment - i'm always better when i'm in the routine of work. I found a site with what i thought were some quite useful tips for coping with depression - http://www.helpguide.org/mental/depression_tips.htm

As i normally read these kind of things and then completely forget all about them, i've bought myself a fancy little notebook to write the main points in so i can refer to it when i need to.

I've got a weekend away with Spice booked for the weekend after next which i'm really looking forward to. It will be really strange to not have to deal with the usual weekend demons! I just have to find something to keep myself busy for the coming weekend. I think i might invite my friend round for dinner Saturday night. That way Saturday will be spent cooking and Sunday recovering.

hi all. hope everyones okay, picks up soon and big hugs to all, esp to those in need.
plodding on at the moment, much the same but trying to be positive.

seems to help me when i take stock of things, plus i really need to start writing things down again, did seem to help.
i've come to see that at the moment a lot of my problems may be low self esteem plus the fact ive had people being nasty to/about me when my business is nothing to do with them and i dont deal with it too well.
plus coping with the way familys can be, esp younger siblings.

Hope a little sun has reached every one of you in one way or another today.

Itchy feet thank you for that link, it's a very good page, I especially like the "wellness toolbox". I have bookmarked it.

hello all, hope all is okay and hugs to all.
feeling a bit down in the dumps and blue plus lonely. probably because of having to stop associating with certain people because of them being so nasty etc and struggling to get myself out and building new friendships.
plus trying get an exchange nearer family (back into an area id rather be in than the one im in) along with having to cope with the 'niggles' one can get with a selfish family. esp someone who is being a wannabe of you, turning it around to be you plus cant talk to you properly etc.
im considering doing tai chi but it seems pricey no matter what i look at along with horse riding. im trying to keep a journal but i feel i need to get out and do something.

I have recommended these books on a thread previously, but if you haven't read them they are really worth seeking out:

Dr Claire Weekes - Self Help for your Nerves. Fantastic book for anyone with anxiety, nerves etc. Read the Amazon reviews.

Richard Carlson - Stop Thinking, Start Living. A CBT book that shows how our mind distorts things and makes us needlessly unhappy. Easy reading.

These CBT books are good too:

Dr David Burns - Feeling Good: New Mood Therapy
Dr Robert Leahy - The Worry Cure
J Bourne et al - Anxiety and Phobia Workbook.

When we feel low, we revert to doing the opposite of what is good for us - bad habits like drinking and smoking - staying in bed all day, not socialising. This just gives us more time to go over stuff in our head and fixate on negative thoughts.

It's also been mentioned before, but this online course is free from the NHS:

I hope you guys feel better soon.

I am currently finally trying to get help with my anxiety issues (which I have been experiencing for over a decade now). I get panic attacks a lot these days. Mainly at night, I will suddenly feel blind panic, like I am about to die and hyperventilate. Also get them in big crowds. But the main thing that has forced me to seek help is when ever I have a driving test. During lessons I can drive confidently but as soon as I get out on test I freak out and fall to pieces (the last examiner I had said he thought I was being taken to the firing squad not having a driving test I was so bad). It sounds daft but it is costing me a fortune and I need to pass my test for the career I want. I had to register with the doctor but the receptionist wouldn't let me book an appointment to see anyone until they have processed my forms at the surgery. Every other docs I have previously registered with let me do this. Its a joke. When they do process my forms, who knows how long it will be before I get an appointment.

Hello, hope it's ok to pop my head in. Had depression from 16 - it varies from functioning quite well on the outside and just feeling empty inside to just desolate not wanting to leave the house or do anything and massive mood swings. Currently in a bad down, haven't left the house willingly in days and I have massive anxiety about going anywhere or people going anywhere. Just want my life back :(

course you can pop your head in kiss me now9. pull up a chair, make yourself a cuppa and get comfy.
have you sought any help or advise professionally? might be your first thing to do or let the people know if you can your strugglling?

it really hard when you've struggled so long. ive had depression on and off since about 14(ish) and have only resantly managed to get things back on track. not without ups and downs or people sometimes taking a dislike you could say to getting myself on the up.
but im sure you will get their.
im not bad at the moment, plodding along plus trying to not let the crud aimed at me get me down. not taking much notice of it if i can t be honest, it seems for me people have to get a kick somehow and go for me. my answer is knickers to them, if they dont like the fact im standing up for myself or not taking any notice then it tough crap for them.

hi all, hope all is okay.
been up and down like a yo yo, but plodding along working with whatever it is and getting their some how.
got to a point again that i have had to admit to myself that im my own worst problem sometimes and the fact that i am the one that has to deal with watever it is. especially my weight and what im eating as it one of the things that really bothers me the most as ive put on a lot of weight in the last 10 years.
plus im wasting money like anything by buying in unhealthy food and throwing it out. so it bad habits im having to sort out too.
    anyway, hugs to all
  • hi unluckyt, thanks for updating us, this thread has gone very quiet recently. i'm up and down like a yo-yo too. a couple of weeks ago, things were really bad, but seem to have evened out a little. i waste a lot of money on stuff i dont really need also, but if it helps pass the time along, and makes you feel better, then i wouldnt worry about it unless your getting into debt.
    hugs
