    Hi Everyone,
I haven't posted here for a long while, I have been getting along day to day but do struggle from time to time - Christmas was awful :(
I live at home with my husband (who I swear is Aspergers) and my 22 yr old son who's daughter (3) lives with us half the week. My son has also suffered badly from anxiety and depression but is a lot better now and has turned his life around.
I am really struggling at the moment, this may sound silly but I have felt the depression creeping back over the last couple of weeks and today I just feel so 'heavy'. I don't take medication but I did see a counsellor a couple of years ago at the GP's but when I asked if I could see her a short while ago they said it was too long since I'd last seen her so I had to be referred and it was group sessions I just couldn't cope with that and having to start all over again so I didn't bother. Because my OH is Asperger's he doesn't always 'lock on' to emotions so unless I say something doesn't realise if I am struggling. And I am today. I just feel so hopeless.
I'm hoping that writing it here may help, I know I'll get through this but I don't understand why I can't just be happy with the blessings I have :(

sal-ad daze Sorry you are struggling and it is a shame the wait is so long for counseling, did it help before?sometimes depression does come on for no reason. Some people find exercise helps or have you thought about asking for some medication?it has really helped me over the years especially when the depression came on for no reason.

Just a thought have you had your Vit D levels checked, if they are low that can cause depression, do you get outside in the light a lot - we make Vit D ourselves when sunlight hits our skin, so if you don't get outside regularly you might be short. You can just buy some supplements to take till you see the doctor. Its just they found that is part of the reason I have had very bad depression past 5 winters, I also use a biobulb that has more white light like real daylight - its not the usual daylight bulbs, in Amazon about £7.50. ( and for mods I do not sell them am just a customer)them Just small things but they can make a big difference if they are adding to cause or are cause of depression

    Hugs

    Hello everyone,
I haven't posted for ages - I stopped getting the emails to remind me.
I have now been off the medication since August, so that's 6 months. I have had some fraught times, and spent long stretches at a time researching depression.
I came across a blog written by a fellow sufferer who took a food diary to a dietician who pointed out to them that they were lacking fish oils/Omega 3 in their diet so he started taking Omega 3 supplements, and saw a huge improvement.

Seeing nothing to lose in trying (and I already had a pot of omega 3 capsules in the cupboard) I've been taking Omega 3 100mg capsules daily for probably 5 months now, and people are commenting the difference in me. Yes, I do crash, but not as often and not as low, or long. I suppose they aren't so much a crash as a low speed car park ding. I feel generally more able to go about my day. Before I was diagnosed, I could sit on my bed and stare into space for hours at a time, and did this from my teens (I'm now 38). I would sometimes burst into tears when I was on my own in the car. If you're reading this, chances are you know what I mean.

I have told DH what I was thinking sometimes and he was gobsmacked at how negative my though processes were. It really gave him an insight to what my brain does to me. Ironically, I'm an optomist, so I really spot when I'm sinking.

I have spoken to my doctor about trying to set up coffee group in my town as there is no support locally. Neither was he able to arrange CBT, or counselling. Ironically I received more help from a health visitor who visited when DS was a baby. If this is such a widespread, debilitating condition, there should be more help available. Thank goodness for the internet.

I'm not cured, this is with me for life. But at the moment, I do feel stronger and I have learned enough to help myself when the blanket is heaviest.

Very interesting about the Omega 3 Oils I will add them to my supplements, as might just help a bit more and cannot harm, for me as I put in previous mail the Vit D and Biobulb has made such a big difference usually by now I am in bed not eating, getting washed, keeping curtains closed and in such pain ( I have a long term chronic health condition that causes bad pain and exhaustion ) and getting more and more depressed till each year for past 5 years by the end of March I have wanted to cut my wrists - actually did start to one year and son happened to pay a visit, but it only delayed me but I knew I must not give in and ended up phoning NHS Direct and talking to a nurse there for about 6 or more hours, me just going on like a cracked record saying over and over how I would be better off dead for my families sake and thankfully I got through each time. During summer yes get depressed, for me its like a blackness that comes over my mind inside my head but I find I can fight it a bit better than in winter that was why I researched into what might help me. Have had down moments this winter but nothing like the past 5 thankfully, although physical symptoms have been no better -in fact are worse......

I just have mine in the overhead light and put it on whenever I feel the darkness or as if I need more light. At first it did cause me a headache after a short time on at first but I just put it a bit longer each day and so slowly got used to it, now can have it on all day without it causing any problems

    Hi Guys,
    I'm feeling a lot brighter today :)
Interestingly I went out for dinner with a very good friend yesterday and tried to describe how my depression feels to me. She nodded wisely and then made a comment that showed that she absolutely hadn't a clue!
And that's it really isn't it, unless you've been there you absolutely haven't got a clue!
People try and support you the best they know how but it's not like say having the flu or something when they've experienced that and can identify with it, try as they might they can't understand.
I've read with interest the posts about supplements and will certainly look into that further.
    Thanks for being there x
