Before I went on the pill, for about a week an a half before I was due my brain would turn to cotton wool, I would become more and more clumsy and more and more angry and irritated and more and more constipated:o. Then the day I started I would feel even worse and want to virtually kill someone, be in a lot of pain and have diarrhoea and be sick if any ate anything. By day 3 this would all begin to fade away until by day 5 I would start to feel normal. Day 7 I would be on an absolute high, full of energy and feeling really happy. Then a week and a half later it would all start again.
At least on the pill it all lasts 5 days and the rest of the time I feel normal. When I look back its no wonder I was miserable all the time at my last school.
Sorry to go on about it but its unusual for me to find any other women who suffer the same or worse! I wonder if any of this is linked to depression? I wonder if what causes pms in some women and not in others is the same thing that gives some people depression and not others? I just think there is something there that isn't quite working right.
It can't be right can it. Hormones could well feature in both."All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)

Ta for link CC. My periods have been excrutiating since they started when I was 14.
From what I understand, this might be an indicator of just severe spasmodic dysmenorrhoea (which apparently is controlled by chemicals called prostaglandins whatever they are exactly) rather than endometriosis but I have seriously wondered about endometriosis.
I have been scanned - ultrasound uterus - a couple of times, 1st time for bloating and 2nd time, more recently, I really emphasised that I was worried about endo. Scanning person spent ages and said nothing was showing but she didn't do transvaginal scan - said there was no need - even though the letter I got said I would be getting that and I understand that is what they really should do if looking for endo.
I feel very beaten down as regards doctors at the moment for various reasons and I just don't have the strength or confidence to push anything with them any more.
I suppose next stage for looking for endo would be laparoscopy or something. Just can't face pursuing it or a couple of other things they have botched up or need pursuing at the minute. Wish I was rich and could afford private healthcare or a personal physician.
Ooh it's all gone a bit in depth medical, sorry!"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)

OMG- your period pains nearly mirror mine!
(started when I was 14, they vanished when I was ill with an eating disorder but have recently returned and the pain is terrible- landed me in A&E last year as I was unable to walk, eat, sleep, wait to see the doctor the next day (called up at 8am and they were fully booked for the day!) Doctor's receptionist said I needed to go to a&e).
I had two scans now, the first was for bloating like you, showed up nothing. This last time I had it, december last year, also nothing but I have been referred and today had an appointment, they suggested taking buscopan (could have screamed "!!!!!!!!!" But am willing to give it a try.) Have been taking a prescribed pill (not 'the pill') and its reduced the pain but its still noticeable- want to suggest it but know we are not allowed on here, safe to say I accidentally overdosed on it last month, read up and apparetnly 5 pills istead of the advised 3 pills a day could give me a heart attack. Am back to 3 now and its still far better then nothing but not enough that its all fine, I still find myself in a ball, but atleast I can walk now. Its just so wierd, they have come on so suddenly, they used to be bad, I took a normal otc pain killer and they would fade to an OK level, then late last year those pain killers just all of a sudden stopped working! Now I am on new ones but even so, the pains before that were really something else- I cannot describe it, never had them that bad before.
I hope yours gets sorted, I have been given 3 months to keep a diary and they may send a camera inside me (great:eek:) am not sure why a camera would show anything a ultra scan would not but in for a penny.....and tbh I am so fed up with the cramps-
I liked having my period, when I was 14 all my friends had started already so I welcomed them with open arms as it showed I was normal and also felt like I was part of a club and part of being alive/normal.
Now its gotten to the stage where I dread them. Even exercise does not help now- and cardio is something I do even with my period pains, (its an obsession for me) and I do push through them (with the help of many many pills- like 12 over 8 hours- stupid and not recommended,) exercise (and it has to be heavy heavy cardio to work for me) only helps when your in the middle of the momentum, and it only helps to reduce it, not stop it. Once you've finished or if I slow down my it all comes back.
The pills I have been given do help as I say, but as I can only take 3 a day I do notice the pain returning to a very uncomfortable level until 1-2 hours after I have taken the pill and up until 1-2 hours before the next pill (so upto 4 hours between pills). Still, they are a life saver in a way!0 -
There are clearly quite a few who go through painful periods each month, and to the point where it's imcapacitating
Hopefully jenniewb, they will be able to find what is causing you so much pain.
I keep my fingers crossed that my own DDs don't suffer so badly from it.There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -
Off to the hospital again this afternoon.
Still have a sore throat, although not as bad as yesterday.
Hope you're ok sandyThere is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -
morning all, hope everyone is ok this morning. i feel tired and drained, spent all last night crying, wish i could get over ian, some days i'm fine, and others i'm not.
shaz xenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0 -
Hugs, Shaz ((())) Im sorry you are feeling low.
On the subject of periods, there is a really good doctor in London who tests your hormone levels etc (Denise Welch spoke about him on Loose Women) - Professor John Studd. He has his own website. Unfortunately you have to pay a few hundred pounds to see him. I was going to do this before Christmas - mainly because if I get myself sorted with my pms and pain then I will know how to sort my daughter out because she suffers the same. Its a lot of money though and I am now on the way to being diagnosed with something else so I have to sort that out first now.:o
When you talk to people about their medical problems or watch these medical programmes - factual or fictional - it always amazes me just how much there is to go wrong with a human body! Ive just started watching House and its scary the different diseases and conditions people can get!0 -
Shaz - big hugs. You will have sad and OK days but think how you felt when he was messing you around. Whenever you are away from someone or somewhere you only remember the good about it and forget why you left them.
You need this time, you are mourning a loss. I remember finishing with my ex. I felt sick for a whole month and wished I was still with him, then it went and I met another guy and had feelings I could never have with my other boyfriend. An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

Denise Welch also had post natal depression.
One reason I decided not to have more kids was I had a son already, didn't want to inflict women's problems on a girl and didn't want another boy. I also found it hard enough looking after one child who was extremely hyper. An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

Aw jenniewb I really feel for you, I don't usually meet people who have it as bad as me.
I think I know which tab you mean, I've been getting it for years and years, otc tabs just don't touch the pain for me.
I've been told so many different things by docs and pharmacists about how often you can take it. I would've said 3 times a day is right but a pharmacist told me no you can take it more frequently (also a doc) so I did and do (because as you say, the body seems to be saying 'more painkillers NOW! not in a couple of hours time') but I too worry about od'ing on it. Sometimes when the pain/nausea/distress is so bad you will do anything to get rid of it. Don't mean to alarm anybody, I'm not talking deliberate od or anything.
I did hear a year or two ago that Buscopan could work on p pains and wondered about it because of concerns over the other med - I take it for my IBS anyway occasionally. Be scared to try it though as the other stuff usually works and if it didn't work .
Do you use hot water bottles? I have to have them as well as the tabs to really conquer it.
Good luck with your investigations. PM me any time if you want.
