Support for people with Depression

Did anyone see this? I spotted it this morning on MSN news.....
A "dark side" to the internet suggests a strong link between time spent surfing the web and depression, say psychologists.
British scientists found that the longer people spent online, the less likely they were to be happy.
A small group of the worst affected individuals were both depressed and addicted.
But it was not clear whether using the internet causes mental health problems, or whether people with mental health problems are drawn to the internet.
More work is needed to answer this "chicken and egg" question, say the researchers.
Study leader Dr Catriona Morrison, from the Institute of Psychological Sciences at the University of Leeds, said: "The internet now plays a huge part in modern life, but its benefits are accompanied by a darker side."
The scientists employed the internet to carry out their research.
I have to say, the internet does make me feel worse when I'm already feeling low and since I'm fairly isolated, my life tends to be lived online a lot so that causes me a problem.
Oh and food without doubt affects my moods. Carbs affect me negatively. I'm always happier when I eat a low carb diet.Herman - MP for all!0 -

I've made a start saz, I'm trying to be laid back about it all so I don't set myself up for a fall...which is what I always used to do.
Nice to 'see' you again too btw.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Heya everyone.
Sorry I haven't really been around that much lately.
Sam's granddad died so things have been a bit hectic here and then we went up to Kings Lynn for the funeral at the weekend.
I'm completely drained now.lol.
On top of that we've started to plan the wedding and we're looking at a September date. We've found a venue we'd love to have so I think we're all going to look around at the weekend.2019 Wins

Sorry to hear about Sam's grandad. Congratulations though, LM, what a lovely thing to look forward to. I can't wait to hear about your plans and what you are wearing etc. What sort of venue have you chosen? When I got married it was either church or registry office but nowadays you can choose some lovely places to get married in.0

That resonates with me aliasojo. I felt better for laying off the net for a few weeks after Christmas. Can be addictive.
Hmm, low carbs, thanks for the pointer people, I might try that I'm a carb addict."All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)

It does seem to make sense, doesn't it.
When I'm housebound, the internet keeps me sane and I probably do spend too much time on here, however, I do enjoy a break every now and then.
I must say, I don't let anything on here upset me and I think that is something others should aim for, because it is the internet, but easier said than done.
The low carb thing is definitely interesting. There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0
