Beth I have to say I've never understood why people get off on judging other people they know nothing about and conditions they have no experience of. Tbh, I think it says far more about them than it does about you. You can't reason with people like that, so I wouldn't bother trying! Just ignore xxx

Hope everyone's doing ok. I have a very early start tomorrow, so better get myself off to bed soon. And why don't we have a shrug shoulders or roll eyes smilies anymore? See, I want to put them in now and I can't! lol

    Good night everyone

    Much love,

I have just been feeling very down last few weeks, winter blues. Not knowing what I want, what I want to do. Can't relax, don't like being at work, but then don't want to be at home. I am keeping busy and keeping my mind active. It helps. Sounds like I am just down.

    Some thoughts about depression

    Depression can be caused by

    Being frustrated.
    Frustrated by rejection.
    Rejection from people

Feeling trapped in a situation you hate, such as being in a house you hate due to bad neighbours or can't sell. Or being in a job you hate but too scared to leave as you NEED the money and not finding it easy to find another.

Being with people you dislike and being frightened to admit it or feel guilty if you think it, as you feel like a bad person for disliking people you are supposed to like.

How many people would be depressed if they were in a job they really enjoyed, a home they love, had plenty of money and lived with people they really like?

    Went out today.

    Felt quite good today.

Saw my mother and she goes on about every miserable thing going. I felt exhausted and depressed afterwards.

I thought I could have some fun time with her now she has only herself to look after but I feel she wants to tie us down after we have spent 22 years bringing up our spoilt and grumpy son.

We arranged to meet our son for dinner and he walked off because we wanted to order from the set menu and he wouldn't pay the difference to have a dish from the a la carte menu.

He earns a reasonable wage but he squanders it. He has a £2500 overdraft and makes no effort to pay it off. My mother wants to pay it off but feel he will just rebuild another one. If I felt he was taking responsibility for his life, I would think it was OK for her to help him, as we need help when starting out. People lose direction but get on track but he has been this way for 5 years and will be 22 in February and still a self centred waster.

She says he is stupid with money but rescues him. She doesn't listen to us when we offer advice. We have to listen to the same negative stuff she brings on herself. She also dotes on a loser ex neighbour who won't help himself because he was nice her when he lived next door.

We have to move on in May and feel like getting away from them.

I feel shackled to miserable negative people and it brings me down, so much so, I feel I am going to have a nervous breakdown if I don't get away.

Thanks. There can be a lot of nastiness from some people on Discussion Time. I think it makes certain people feel big. I was discussing benefits on a certain thread and people were talking about how most people with depression were just attention seeking. Because I replied to this I then was accused of being an attention seeker too! So I said that if I kept quiet then the myths surrounding depression would just continue. If, however, I try to explain depression to people and show that it isn't "all in the mind" and you can't "pull yourself together etc" then Im accused of attention seeking! I said "I can't win can I?" I went offline for a few hours after that and didn't see what happened, but some people were starting to get nasty. When I logged on again later the thread had been deleted.
There are some areas of this forum that have some really nasty ignorant posters. I had some trouble a few months ago when asking for advice in the relevant section they trawled through my past posts to be nasty and they started on the other regulars in here too as they traced my posts to here.

Non depressed people go on those threads too, sometimes in a state of desperation to get some mature constructive advice, not invite open season bullying at a time you feel vulnerable about something traumatic in your life.

I do wish the mods would clamp down more on them as there are many areas of this forum I would like to post but it was like disturbing a wasps nest the last time I strayed.

It really lets this forum down.

The offending posts were removed too.

I dont mean this is a nasty way but you language is very negative and so your beliefs appear that way. I had the same self limiting beliefs but was shewn that they are nearly always wrong. Now I challenge my thoughts until I come up with new ones.

I agree that you can be taught to think in a different way and can challenge your own thoughts. If I come across as negative then its simply because I suffer from depression.

However, when I visit DT and see someone saying crass things like "I haven't got time for depression" and talking about it as though you are simply feeling a bit low and sorry for yourself then I feel I must stick up for people who suffer from it. It is a very debilitating condition and a lot of people don't realise this. I use examples from my own experience of depression and then people say Im attention seeking when I am merely trying to justify my points of view with my actual experience.

There is a certain person who regularly posts on DT who used to post a lot on this depression thread. He laughs at depression and is quite nasty about it. He thinks he is an expert on depression and yet doesn't understand it at all. He even put a link to a post someone made on these boards in quite a nasty way. The person who made the post wouldn't have known he did this and therefore had no opportunity to defend themselves against his accusations. I usually avoid posting anything to him directly because there is no point as he thinks he knows it all.

DT can be scary but it doesn't usually bother me because this is just an internet forum. I will never meet the people in person.
