I am shuddering at the thought of this female lodger who may, as Geenie says, have flaky skin and suffer from excess sweating and may perhaps, as poppysarah says, also pee the bed...god, let the poor woman run the machine as often as she wants.....buy her some extra soap powder.......:rotfl:0 -
I used to live with a friend who would leave her washing until about 10pm of the last day off she had before work the next day.
She would then leave the heating on all night just so she could get her clothes dry!
Another time she put washing out on the line to dry...thank goodness. Only couldnt be arsed getting it in so it rained. She then had to wash it again. Then she left that load in the machine all damp for 2 days...so washed it AGAIN!!!
Sounds a bit like me.. did she also smoooooth the clothes down on the radiators (when they were turned up full) so there would be no ironing involved ?It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up !
But why should I give up when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

I think the op's lodger would have found (like I did), that she did not need to wash the clothes again. I found the rain actually took the creases out of the clothes (rainwater's not dirty afterall), I just left it on the line to dry after it got a good soaking one day. Mother nature rinsed and pressed my washing for me - you can't get more environmentally friendly than that!0 -
One flat that I rented, many moons ago, has a communal washing machine, and it was just a bog standard one but somehow it had a coin operated bit attached to it.
Off to have a google.....Pawpurrs x0 -
Am intrigued to know how this goes. 8 times a week is ridiculous, I am 2 maximum.
I used to work with a woman who was forever doing laundry. She said she used pillow cases twice - use one side the first night, then turn it over for the second night, then put it in the wash. She also ironed socks.
Anyway, I would much rather live with the OP's lodger than any of the slobby lodgers I've read about on here. But with 8 loads a week I would be worried that I wouldn't get a chance to use the machine myself - maybe you could use that angle too.0 -
Thanks all for your advice. She put a load on last night. One bra and two t shirts from the looks of things! So I mentioned "let me know next time you put a load on as I can never find enough to do a full load either" so we will see if she asks or how much she fills it up next time.0

Exactly what I'd be worried about.
Has she got very few clothes? Is she washing same ones over and over?
Are you sharing detergent?
Is it just 8 washes, is she doing more when you're out? :eek:0 -
If you care about your clothes, don't have a huge number of them and want to stay reasonably clean, then the weekly washing comprises of the following loads.
1) Darks
2) Whites
3) Coloureds
4) Bedding (two loads as it is a double bed)
5) Towels
I personally try and get through that lot once a week so I don't end up with huge piles of dirty clothes.0 -

That isn't strictly true, it's often contaminated iwth sand etc in certain areas(after Saharan sandstorms especially or something like that)0 -

Nah it's a normal machine - I get 4 pillow cases, double duvet cover and undersheet in one load. Probably do it once every 6 weeks.0
